the definition of bi is âattraction to 2 or more gendersâÂ
but those 2 genders are never specified. sure, you can be bi if you like both men and women, but you could also ID differently, and since there are tons of existing nonbinary genders, attraction to both men and women isnât a requirement of bisexuality.
you could be attracted to any combination of 2 genders, including:
men and women
women and demigirls
men and agender people
demiboys and maveriques
genderflux people and neutrois people
and still count as bi, because the only requirement of bisexuality is attraction to more than just one gender.Â
donât worry, thatâs not the same thing as fetishizing nonbinary people! that would be if you tried to lump all nonbinary individuals into some mysterious amalgamous âthird genderâ category alongside men and women, creating a gender âtrinaryâ, or based on the stereotype that the only correct way to be nonbinary is to be androgynous.Â
however, the definition of wlw is âwomen loving womenâ, and bi women who arenât attracted to other women arenât really wlw/sapphics, because that is simply an inaccurate description of their identity. basically, not all bi women are wlw, but most are, because itâs way more likely that youâll realize youâre attracted to both binary genders than youâll learn about nonbinary genders first.Â
tl;dr: support bi women who arenât attracted to women!
for anyone confused about why nb means nonblack and should never be used to mean nonbinary, please read this articleâit talks about how âenbyâ was coined as an alternative to nb because nb already meant nonblack.
this is why you should take ânbâ out of your urls. while you can be proud of being nonbinary, it just looks like youâre proud of not being black, which is pretty yikes.Â
this blog is inactive, so I wonât change the url. also, I think it would prevent other enby sapphics from trying to take it & use it and pretending that isnât racist.Â

A line of beautiful, plus size fashion dolls. We believe #ACES: Amazing comes in every size!
yâall⌠this project needs our help.Â
the creators are a curvy white woman and a curvy black woman who want to create a line of plus size dolls in order to promote body positivity and acceptance among young girls.Â
in case you didnât know, according to this study done in 2015, at least 80% of 8 to 10 year old girls in the united states are either on a diet, or they have their daily food intake restricted. the reason thatâs still relevant, despite the substantial gap of 4 years between the publishing of the study and this kickstarter, is that in the 1970s, the encouraged dieting age for girls was 14, thus showing a clear downwards trend in the age young girls are made and encouraged to diet.Â
this is extremely harmful for their self esteem, as well as their growing and changing bodies, and can lead to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia in addition to malnourishment and serious health concerns (e.g. vitamin deficiencies), and unfortunately, the extreme weight loss mentality cultivated by parents and/or guardians can last long into adulthood.Â
now that you know why we need representation for fat women, itâs time to talk about why this specific small business deserves support. the answer is simple enough: they are respectful to the fat characters theyâve created, and allow all of them to posess a sense of dignity.Â
clearly three dimensional characters, each of the dolls has their own personality and style:
aliyah (1st) - the sweet owner of an animal sanctuary and a veterinarian for exotic animals
quinn (2nd) - a strong vintage car mechanic
keiko (3rd) - became an incredibly smart animal robitics engineer because sheâs allergic to animal fur
alexandra (4th) - extremely tough, no-nonsense civil rights law student and activistÂ
if the project reaches its funding goal, these dolls could show up on the shelves of your local target and walmart.Â
sounds amazing, right? well, donât get your hopes up too soon, because the project has met less than 0.08% of its goal with less than a month to completion.Â
you read that rightââall or nothingâ means that if they donât make at least $230,655 (USD) before July 7, 2019, the kickstarter will be abandoned.Â
personally, Iâm hoping the creators plan to launch another kickstarter if this one fails, but hopefully it wonât come to that. maybe, if we spread this around enough, posting updates on the progress it makes, we might just be able to help them.Â
Iâm not demanding you donate $200 because âyou canât call yourself a good feminist without including fat people in your activism,â Iâm asking you to reblog this for your friends, followers, and family members who know what itâs like to be ashamed of their size.Â
barbie and her multitude of professions did wonders for encouraging girls to pursue careers in STEM fields, imagine what this could do for girls.Â
so tag your friends, tag your mutuals, tag anyone you can think of to help support and signal boost this beautiful idea! Iâll start:Â
âThe symbolism of the flower derives from several fragments of poems by Sappho in which she describes a lover wearing garlands or a crown with violets.â
As per the request of @lesbianthor, I put together a violet-centric lesbian flag design! She really likes the 1900s symbolism of the violet as a subtle, quiet message to women who love other women that they are in each otherâs company, and I did my best to incorporate both the modern bright purple and vintage vibes from lesbian history into one edit. Iâm never going to be satisfied with that tricky shade of burgundy but oh well.Â
There are 5 stripes in total, and Lia and I worked together to hash out the meaning behind each one.Â
Navy Blue - Visibility for lesbians who are frequently erased from the media, the world, and sometimes even their own community. This includes (but is not limited to) trans lesbians, nonbinary lesbians, lesbians of color, butch lesbians, Jewish lesbians, Muslim lesbians, aro/ace lesbians, and any other lesbian under the sun who has ever mourned because of a lack of representation.Â
Purple - The middle road that questioning lesbians cross on their journey, as well as the ultimate decision to embrace their love of women.Â
Pink - The joy inside a lesbianâs heart when they experience their first crush; also readable as the blush on their cheeks when in the presence of attractive women.Â
Burgundy - Lifeblood of every lesbian who fought to bring the LGBT community into the light before, during, and after Stonewall so that the world could learn to accept that lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, trans people, and so many more identities outside of heterosexuality and the gender binary exist, which would allow the community as a whole to begin healing.Â
I donât mind if people use this flag for edits, and itâs okay if nobody wants to use it at all, I know a lot of users are very attached to the lipstick lesbian flag. Plus, this is just one more flag to add to the heap of inspired flag designs that hundreds of other users have already created, and itâs certainly not the prettiest.Â
I donât expect it to become the ânext big lesbian flagâ, but Lia believes that the violet lesbian flag should definitely be an option for those who want alternatives, especially with pride month coming up in only a couple of weeks.Â
Since I forgot to talk about the white stripe, some people are curious as to what its meaning is, so I thought Iâd talk about that. I made sure to double check with Lia so that they could give their two cents and tweak it as much as they desired.
White - Sisterhood for lesbian women, kinship for nonbinary lesbians, and protection for young lesbians. The connection that lesbians share is an unbreakable bond, one that has endured for hundreds of years and will continue to do so far into the future. Each lesbian puts their best foot forward to serve and protect their community.
Liaâs addition:
Butches teach others chivalry, femmes teach others about embracing femininity that is not meant to appeal to men, muscular lesbians teach others that one can be strong without being a man, and religious lesbians help others come to terms with their existence and purpose, as well as give them hope for the future. And it doesnât stop there! Every lesbian everywhere has something beautiful to contribute.

sometimes I feel very isolated on campus because I'm not super out and proud. I love myself but something always stops me from being more vocal about my identity cause I don't fit the mold
sorry to bother you, but could we get a promo? weâre the mods for a confession blog for lesbians who go to and/or have visited hollins campus in VA! @chubbysapphic @lesbianstarterpack @sapphicproblems @sensitivesapphic @officialfemme @sapphicconfessions @wlw-confessions @lezconfessions
I remember back when I was a baby gay at 13 and made my first tumblr account. the wlw community immediately took me in, and essentially raised me like a real family when my own neglected me. I think of all wlw, lesbians, bi women, pan women, trans wlw, ace wlw, aro wlw, and so many others as my sisters (and nb wlw as my siblings).Â
so please listen, because I have something really important to say.Â
lesbians frequently have the priority in sapphic spaces, being solely attracted to women (ofc some of us also feel attraction towards nonbinary people), and needing all the resources we can get. most of us are very accepting of all different kinds of wlw.Â
that being said, we still need to fight against discrimination and lateral aggression within the sapphic community. that means educating the ignorant who are in danger of becoming bigoted, and shutting out people who make the community less safe for innocent young wlw.Â
even if itâs an incredibly popular blog with a huge influence on lgbt circles in tumblr. even if itâs a blog you like, or have followed for a really long time. if you see them start to slide towards the hostile end of the spectrum to the point where they are actively attacking other wlw with slurs and harrassment based in their identity because of a disagreement, you need to shut that person out. if they do any of the following things, you need to stay away from them, because theyâre big red flags.Â
use slurs of any kind against marginalized groups, especially ones they donât belong to
are white and use fetishizing language to refer to woc/poc in generalÂ
make âare you triggered?â jokesÂ
call bisexual women âbihetsâ (even if they are also bisexual)Â
block evadeÂ
invalidate a wlwâs pansexuality, polysexuality, or asexuality/aromanticismÂ
say that pan/ply/ace/aro/etc. wlw either have internalized homophobia and are actually âjust gayâ or âjust biâÂ
assert that you canât really be sapphic unless youâve dated and/or slept with a girlÂ
refuse to acknowledge a nonbinary sapphic as sapphic b/c they prefer not to call themselves âwoman/female-alignedâÂ
roll their eyes and complain whenever a multi-attracted wlw talks about their boyfriend/male crushÂ
brag about only having relationships with younger women (thatâs extremely predatory)Â
imply that bi and pan women deserve and should expect to be sexually assaulted if they seek out relationships with menÂ
if you see anyoneâand I mean ANYONEâin the wlw community doing any of these things, donât even feel guilty about blocking them. you can approach them and ask them to clarify what they meant if youâd like, but youâre not obligated to try to educate them.Â
letâs try to make the sapphic community a safer place for everyone, okay?
he/him lesbians arenât cishet men who joke about being lesbians because they like women. he/him lesbians arenât trans men who canât let go of the lesbian label. he/him lesbians arenât men, and if you automatically assume a lesbian who goes by he/him is actually a man pretending to be a lesbian, youâre lesbophobic. case closed.Â

I wanted to make merchandise for the sun and moon lesbian flags a friend asked me to create for AGES, and now I finally have that opportunity! (And yes, you may use the square sun/moon edits I made for this post and these shirts as icons.) There should be 19 items for each flag!
A lot of people have claimed credit for my flags, and I donât doubt that thereâs other merch out there with my designs on it. I know some people are even boycotting me and crediting other people for creating the flags because of nasty rumors that Iâm friends with TERFs, that Iâm racist because the original lesbian flag was created by a racist, or even that Iâm trying to shoehorn myself into the lesbian community (which Iâm not at all trying to do.)Â
That being said, I donât have very much money of my own, and I am trying to get enough so that Iâm no longer completely dependent on my homophobic and transphobic parents (Iâm a neurodivergent genderqueer/nonbinary sapphic), so please consider buying some of this merch from me if you are able! If you canât, a reblog or two would be greatly appreciated <3
