It happened to me twice. One of the kids who bullied me in middleschool apologized a few years later. He did not make excuses, just said how stupid he had been, how much he knew I had been hurt and how he realized it now. And, of course, that he was sorry and hoped I could heal. He hadn't been the worst from miles, and I did forgive him. Not instantly, but I worked on it.

Another one apologized years later and to this one I simply answered that I did not care. That it was great she apologized but that I would not forgive her. She had hurt me much more and I just couldn't. She didn't expect that reaction, but you don't apologize to be forgiven.
