A recent (as in past half year) watercolour piece by yours truly, inspired by the abstract paintings of Dene/Saulteux (Indigenous Albertan) artist Alex Janvier. It is not my best piece, I could have done better with the proportions and added more colours, but I had fun making it regardless.
This piece is done as a partial nod to my Mi'kmaq ancestors/heritage whilst still tying with my Western Canadian roots. The piece can be observed from any angle, so the interpretation is up to the viewer.
If you truly desire what I intended (You really shouldn't; all art is interpretive media at the end of the day), I meant to invoke the image of the Loon messenger: Known in some Mi'kmaq tales as Kwimu/ Kweemo. (please correct me if I'm wrong; I am happy to be corrected) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The track I shall highlight this time is:
Wood and Stone by Digawolf/Diga This track is from the album "forest fire." I thought it best to highlight an indigenous artist this time, as I own a cd of his I found a year or two ago at a Value Village on the southside of my city. He is a Dene artist from around Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories. This song of his is an almost metal-like punchy rocker which I can always appreciate. Just listen to him, ok?
