Frost

     “Oh, no. I can’t do those kinds of movies with the jumpscares and things. No, they have me up all night afterwards” Sylvia flushed, shaking her head. She was a bit of a baby when it came to anything scary, but it was what it was. “An amazingly observant guess” she giggled. “I’m studying to become a Marine biologist” she explained as she led him through the back areas of the aquarium where usually only staff entered. “What about you?”

“Oh they’re not too bad. Just got to remember none of it is real after all. Well...i guess except those that say based on a true story. But I don’t know if I believe those either.” he shrugged. He smiled a bit when she laughed at his observation, proud of himself. He liked making people laugh.  “Oh I’m not in school. It uh...wasn’t my thing.” he admitted. He knew people may have looked down on him for that, but he didn’t care. He liked his job. And it paid decent considering. He rather make less money at a job he loved than be making more behind a desk and miserable. “I run the camp on the other side of town.” he answered.

Tink shrugged. “It’s a good way to work out some frustration yes.” she confirmed. “I wouldn’t say it’s violent it’s just a bag of sand or whatever they fill these things with.” she said punching the bag in front of her. 

“Right sure.” Jack nodded, watching as she hit the bag a little harder. “so what’s they’re name?” he asked walking behind it, hands reaching out to hold it steady. “The person who’s face you’re picturing?” a smirk crossed his lips revealing teeth as white as his hair. “You can tell me, I’m a great secret keeper”

Tink nodded focusing her attention on the bag in front of her. But she couldn’t stay silent for long and when she had something to say she usually just said it. “You box” she asked casually looking over at his stretching. 

Jack was just about to put his airpods in when he heard the girl speak again, hand freezing midair. “Not particularly. Violence isn’t really my thing.” he shrugged. Not to say that he couldn't defend himself. He just usually had to get a bit more creative. “You clearly do though.” he nodded to the bag as it was still swinging. “Working out some frustration?”

     “Yeah. It’s super peaceful but…it also has big horror movie potential, you know?” she couldn’t help but laugh gently. Sylvia loved all of the smaller animals but the big ones made her uncomfortable in a way that she always struggled to explain. “Daydreaming as a way of putting off going home to work on my coursework? Yeah, totally not an interruption” she clarified, standing as she brushed off her pants. “Come on, it’s this way”

“I like horror movies. Suspense ones. The one’s with too much gore aren’t fun. just...disturbing.” he shuddered a bit at the thought. “Oh? What do you go to school for?” he asked curiously. He followed her, glancing around as they walked. “I’m guessing something marine-related?” an eyebrow raised as he teased her.

Confusion set abroad her face when she saw the barefoot boy sprinting her way. Jack. Who else would be crazy enough to be without shoes during such a cold day? It looked like he was running form someone too. She was still on shift but she couldn’t just abandon him (what kind of friend was that??). She’d been pushing a trey with a sheet atop it, the perfect hiding place. So Snow pushed the sheet back and gestured to him. “Quick!” She exclaimed. Once he was hidden from sight someone new came about, out of breath like Jack had been. “Some weird kid went down the stairs!” She told them. “Oh my, he scared me quite a bit.” They took off, and as soon as they were gone she looked back at the sheet. “Coast is clear.”

The moment Jack saw snow he had started to make a bee line for her. He caught onto her idea and quickly and dove under the cart. HE almost fell to the other side but gripped on pretty well, saving himself. He waited until she said the coast was clear before peeking his head out from the sheet. “Thanks Snow.” He smiled, climbing out and stretching.

Her foot slammed against the punching bag echoing throughout the gym. It was pretty dead, usually it was buzzing with people working out, usually students but Tink found herself the only person working out or so she thought. The squeak of the door had made her head snap up in the direction and she gave a tight smile to the boy who had joined her in the gym. “It’s pretty dead tonight.” she said as a greeting. @naughtylistworldchamp​ 

“Yeah it usually is. This time of night anyway.“ he answered with a little salute. Jack preferred to work out in the middle of the night. He preferred the solitude. He didn’t have to wait for machines or worry about some muscle head asking if he lifted. He didn’t want to bother the girl too much so just started to stretch on his own.

     “Oh, it’s…you’re good. Probably shouldn’t be so jumpy” Sylvia shook her head, relaxed now that she had solid proof that she wasn’t going crazy or something. “Marlin, right” she nodded again, getting herself back onto the matter at hand. “He went home early today but I can show you to his office if you want to leave them there…he should be back tomorrow around opening time so I can be sure to have him give you a call”

“I mean I’d be jumpy in a place like this at night. It’s pretty but also kind of terrifying. Those eels I walked by had me freaked out on the way. ” He chuckled, one hand reaching back to scratch his head. “Oh yeah that sounds great. You don’t mind? I don’t want to interrupt you doing….whatever it was you were doing.”

     The sound of steady footsteps echoing against tile startled Sylvia out of her entrancement, her attention pulled suddenly from the penguins as blue eyes searched for the source of the noise. The aquarium was otherwise empty but Sylvia often stayed late after closing just to sit with the animals (and ultimately her thoughts, too) for a little while before returning to her dorm. There was just something soothing about it that she’d never been able to place. She liked this part of the aquarium in particular best, where she could sit beneath the penguin enclosure and watch them swim above her. The feeling of being surrounded by water had always been a calming one for Sylvia and she could often be found here whenever her class deadlines began to mount up or even if she was simply having a bad day. “Hello?” She called into the silence when she found nothing out of place. “Is somebody there?”

       It had been a rough day at the zoo. They had cut funding to the reptile department; the second time this year. At this rate there would be no reptile department by the end of the year and that was unthinkable. With a frustrated sigh, he buttoned his lounge shirt. Hearing a knock on his door, he knew it could only be one person. “Now’s not really a good time, Jack.”

Jack, ignoring the wishes of his best friend. “Come on open up Hic.” he called. When the boy still didn’t answer Jack went back to his apartment next door. But not to stay of course. The white haired boy walked through and onto his balcony. He easily climbed up onto the railing, jumping over to Hiccup’s balcony. HE slid the glass door open. “What’s happened?” he asked. “And I’m not leaving until you tell me.”
