    “i didn’t expect you to look like your picture,” she confesses as she slides into the chair across from him. she’s dressed to the nines tonight in an olive green dress that brings out the color of her eyes, faux snakeskin clutch resting in her lap. he doesn’t look half bad, either. “i was always intimidated by dating sites, you know, since i heard so many horror stories. but in my line of work, there’s just so many superficial guys.”

   “you look better than your pictures,” he breathes out. and he whole-heartedly means it. the pixels on his computer really did nothing for the green of her eyes, and messages couldn’t have hoped to convey the way her voice commands (and deserves) attention. “not that-- i mean to say that i really hadn’t--” he raises his gaze to the top of the wall behind her head, heat flushing the back of his neck. “forgive me, ma’am. that was forward.”

   ”You wear that scarf like a homosexual.    I don’t mean that like an insult, I’m just sayin’, if that’s the kinda gay vibe you’re tryna give off — job well done.”

      "My ma says it suits me."

      She’s just smiling and kicking off her tall shoes (and suddenly she feels quite tiny beside him!!), something youthful taking over her mind as her feet touch the sand. “Look, isn’t it nice? Every day is a day at the beach for me.”

      "Sure, sure. I ain't too fond o' the beach, myself. Love the water, but the sand gets e'rywhere, and it's as difficult to get out as Grandpa Jo on Thanksgivin'." He smiles out to the horizon, squinting slightly and wishing he'd brought sunglasses. If he were so bold, he would bend down and kiss her right then and there. 

      Is she grabbing his hand? Yeah, she’s totally grabbing his hand. “Lucky for you, I live very near the beach.” Meaning her house is literally across from it.

    "That seems awful convenient." But he'll just let himself get dragged along, with a slightly confused expression on his face.

      “Actually… How about the beach? There’s something I want to show you.”

    "Uh. Sure, sure, I could do the beach."

      “I think we’ve made each other’s days, then.”

     "I sure am glad about that. Whaddya say we go get a cup of coffee?"
