First of all, 'ex nihilo' means 'from/out of nothing' in latin. Mike probably chose latin because people tend to associate it with magic and the occult. It's 'cool'.

Notably, the phrase ex nihilo most recognizably appears in the Bible, in reference to God creating the Earth.

Now. As far as we know, Mike just popped in Astraea one day. Ex nihilo. And as time went on, he changed from being a simple, curious adventurer to the Lord of Shadows, trying to control the world and mold it into his own. Like a god.

Mike named the game 'ex nihilo' because he truly sees himself as a god in Astraea and intended to mold the M3 into his tools, as seen in the poster.

But now the fun part.

MC also appeared suddenly in Astraea. So suddenly that Saaros hadn't even known they would be there after reading the future, and Gramme says they were never meant to be there. 'Ex nihilo' ended up being in reference to MC, not Mike.
