Nate was lost in thought for a moment, reiterating Robin’s words in his mind. If there was any truth in her words, Nate was in for a rough ride because in his past life, he was a bastard but somehow, by some grace, he made it out. - Nathaniel Hayes, born April 28th 1974. Biological Surname? Became irrelevant the day his biological parents shifted parental responsibility.
- Adopted by Jack and Lyndsey Hayes at the age of 5, into a suburban family of four. Nate was never given any reason to feel as though he was missing out on what it meant to be a family, that the meaning of family didn’t begin with blood but ––– Nate felt his identity was a false demeanour. Surpassing that exterior wall, Nate wanted to know what his life was before his adopted parents. What would have become of his identity instead?
- Born and raised in New Hampshire till the age of 12, his life was uprooted to Klover, Colorado, where his adoptive mother excelled in her photography career and his father was a partial stay-at-home/partial counsellor. His adoptive sister was alright, too. There was nothing out of the norm for his all American conservative family. They supported him throughout his successes –––– and his troubles and boy, oh boy, was there a lot. If Nate wasn’t searching for trouble, it would sure as hell find him like a shadow. Inevitably.
- At 19, he had fallen down an endless black hole of chaos and destruction. He had become associated with drug dealers, gangs that were involved in kidnapping, murders and so on. Eventually, his downward spiral led Nate to being kidnapped, tortured and beaten to an inch of his life. A hit on his head for a crime he did not commit. Nate had become answerable to his so-called crimes and the prosecutors found him guilty. Hovering at death’s door had been a wake up call for Nate –– don’t take for granted what you’ve been owed in life, for it can end in a blink of an eye.
- The months following had held its challenges as Nate became accountable for his actions, slowly trying to repair his fractured relationships. Some relationships were unredeemable. In search of hope, he turned his focus towards helping for the greater good. The police force. This lead Nate on a path of discovery, an outlet of truth he never knew he had before, that he was worth more.
- Now, a homicide detective, the reminders of who he once was, remained a distant memory as he battled those who he once was.
