Mares childhood was not that good, he grew up as the family disappointment and was often mocked by his parents and siblings. He started to not care anymore and just rolled with it, often going by the beat of his own drum, which ticked his family off even more so because they were all set in their way of life.

He got accepted into RSA his first year of school, and for the first time in his life, his parents were proud of him. They were happy, they told him what a good son he was all because he made it to the college THEY wanted him to go in.

He transferred to NRC the next year with his friends and eventually saw his parents again at a joint school event his 3rd year at NRC (He is a third year...he got held back when he transferred)...they reverted back to their old ways saying he was a disappointment and how they are ashamed one of their sons is in NRC...

Mind you, he was friends with Tumo, Ruggie, and Leona at this time and just lied to all of them about his parents, saying they were dead..obviously they are revealed to not be at the joint school event so...that doesnt sit well with Tumo or Ruggie who both lost their parents, more so Tumo because Ruggie hasnt known Mare as long...

All this arguing paired with his parents nagging caused the overblot...
