Trauma!
Kakashi: “father committed suicide when he was a child. he was a child soldier in a brutal war. everyone on his team died, one by one, and each time he had a reason to blame himself. one of them literally killed herself using him as the weapon. did I mention the child soldier thing.”
“so so much its been so long since ive read Naruto but hes pretty up there in traumatic moments”
“Kakashi's father killed himself while Kakashi was still a kid, and left him alone because his mom was already dead. While dealing with his difficult feelings about it, he ended up on a mission that killed his teammate pretty horrifically. He lost his eye on that mission too, and replaced it with the eye of his teammate. He's literally actually died but the plot wouldn't let him rest and brought him back. He's had to train the son of his deceased mentor and a member of the same clan that his teammate who gave him the eye, which probably didn't feel great. Kakashi's really been through it and I haven't even finished the show yet, so there's probably more!”
.
Komaeda: “Komaeda is caught up in a relentless ‘luck cycle’, beginning with Komaeda's childhood pet dog being killed by a car crash. Komaeda's parents are killed in a plane crash--leaving him wealthy, but alone. As a child, he is kidnapped and shoved in a trash bag after nobody pays his ransom, but finds a winning lottery ticket in the bag. He's accepted into his dream school of Hope's Peak Academy-- right after being diagnosed with both stage three lymphoma and frontotemporal dementia. These all happened before he even became an adult.”
“saddle up because it’s a lot. spoilers ahead also. *AHEM* komaeda has supernatural luck that works in a cycle: when he experiences bad luck, it’s followed by good luck, then bad, and so on and so forth. his bad luck often targets the people around him, and his good luck often benefits himself. this has caused many events in his life. when he was a child, he was on a plane ride with his parents when the plane was hijacked by terrorists. bad luck. a small meteor chose this time to break through the plane and hit the terrorists, killing them instantly. good luck! this meteor also hit his parents, killing them as well. bad luck. komaeda came into a very large inheritance and now had total freedom to live however he wanted. good luck. the mangas imply that he had a dog that got hit by a car while he was walking it as a kid. he was once kidnapped by a murderer. bad luck. the murderer realized there was nobody to pay his ransom and chose to let him go. good luck! he was left in a dumpster in a trash bag to die. bad luck. when the police found him, he found winning lottery tickets in the trash and got a lot of money. good luck! just before the game starts, he’s diagnosed with stage 3 malignant lymphoma and frontotemporal dementia (considered to be the sources of his white hair in canon). bad luck. a moment later, he wins a raffle that lets him in to the school of his dreams, where he has access to cutting-edge treatment that may improve his lifespan. good luck! all of this occurs before the games, and this cycle affects him in-game too. komaeda: tries and fails to get himself murdered, causing the deaths of two of his classmates. is tied up and lowkey starved for days because his remaining classmates consider him highly dangerous. falls ill and quickly enters critical condition, nearly dying in the process. is trapped in a garish funhouse with the rest of his class for days, unable to eat until someone dies. played russian roulette with five bullets in the chamber. learned that he and everyone he held dear were terrorists who had forgotten their memories of this and the guy he thought understood him best was not only the most dangerous terrorist of the group, but also never even had a talent to begin with (devastating). pretended to hide bombs all across the island. got choked out for this and was grateful bc he ‘saw his dead dog again’. stages the most elaborate rube-goldberg suicide on the planet, leaving behind the most brutally murdered corpse in the game. maybe in all of the games honestly. he gets better which is great, but it also means he has to face everything he’s done and gone through. in a game that showcases him in terrorist form, he acts as a servant to a group of children who regularly treat him like shit whenever he fucks up. like beat the shit out of him. also he cut off his own hand and put a dead woman’s on it instead. luckily didn’t go into septic shock”
“he has a luck cycle where REALLY bad things happen to him, but then really good things also happen to him. the bad things however include: his dog dying. his parents dying right in front of him. getting kidnapped by a serial killer. getting diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and stage 3 lymphoma, with his prognosis being about a year left to live (good luck: he lives longer than that, at least.) getting put in a killing game. Fucking Dying, AND his death is seen as the most gruesome one in the whole series. that's the picture i submitted. also being groomed and/or brainwashed (take your pick) into a terrorist cult. he blames his luck and therefore himself for all of this and routinely calls himself scum and trash”
“Haven't finished the game yet but insane luck that makes both terrible and great things constantly happen to him. Ongoing medical trauma in the form of currently having cancer + dementia. Also caught in a killing game, that sucks too”
“he's in a murder game show, he has terminal brain cancer, his life is constantly punctuated by extremely unlucky incidents including his parents dying in front of him when he was a child, he used to be a soldier for the Worst Person In The History Of The World Ever. it's nagito you probably at least heard about his problems in passing he has plenty :)”
“his luck made it so that his dog died, his parents died in front of him, he's been kidnapped before, he has cancer and dementia, AND he had the most gruesome death out of literally any other victim in the game. like if that's not trauma i dont know what is”
“"TLDR: He has traumatic cyclical Luck that kills everyone he loves.
When he was a kid, his closest companion, his dog, got out of the gate and was hit by a car. Bad luck. His parents took him on a trip to a theme park to cheer him up. Good luck. While boarding the plane home, it was hijacked by a gunman. Bad luck. The gunman was killed by a meteorite striking the plane. Good luck. His parents were also killed by the meteorite. Bad luck. He acquired a large inheritance and freedom as a result. Good luck...?
He was kidnapped by a serial killer in middle school and then dumped in a trash bag. Bad luck. There was a winning lotto ticket in the trash bag, however. Good luck.
He got accepted into his dream school by lottery as the Ultimate Lucky Student. Good luck. He was diagnosed with stage 3 malignant lymphoma and frontotemporal dementia shortly after. Bad luck.
He then was groomed/brainwashed into utter Despair along with the rest of his class by an underclassman via the brutal death of their class rep, resulting in him spending a while as a known terrorist who had a hand in the end of the world. Bad luck. He then was captured by a Foundation working to restore the world, and was put in a rehabilitative simulation with his classmates to turn him back to normal. Good luck.
The simulation was then hijacked by the ringleader with a virus that turned it into a killing game while none of the participants had any memory of this. Bad luck. He spends the entire killing game tripping his way through neither killing or being killed, despite actively trying to in the first round. Good luck? But ultimately he dies to a suicide plot that uses Luck of random selection to have a particular person be the one who killed him, because he wants everybody else to be unable to figure it out, and to his credit the intended target does kill him (Good? Luck???) but they still figure out who it was anyway (Bad Luck). But then it turns out he didn't actually die because it was a simulation. Good luck. But he did end up going into a coma for a while because his entire personhood was kinda deleted when he died. Bad luck."
“He was on an airplane that got hijacked and his parents were killed before his eyes after a small meteor crashed into the plane. After this he was kidnapped by a serial killer who only let him go because nobody cared about him enough to pay the ransom. He has cancer and dementia in his teens. His luck has caused several people to die around him and he deifies the concept of hope to a feverish extent. He has such low self-worth he calls himself trash constantly. EVERYTHING HAPPENS TO HIM.”
“fucked up luck that wildly swings between ridiculously good fortune and ridiculously bad fortune. his parents died in a plane crash. his dog died. he was diagnosed with dementia by the age of 14. all this has clearly had an effect on him because he is optimistic to an almost maladaptive degree (i say almost because it is informed by the good side of his luck), having the mentality that every bad thing that happens is just a challenge to be overcome through hope.”
“okay. Where to start. His parents died in a plane crash, he got kidnapped, he has to live with frontotemporal dementia and magliant lymphoma, he can't ever be at peace due to his extreme luck, his dog got ran over in front of him, he claims that "even his mother" never complimented his appearance/hygiene (depends on the language you play the game in) and he ends up dying by stabbing his thighs, getting poisoned and impaled through the stomach. He is also disliked by everyone around him as viewed as a creep. He also spent years torn between deciding whether he was for despair or hope and was a servant for a bunch of kids. He needs a hug”

Propaganda!
Kakashi: “he's got a neat mask”
“Look at him. He's so cool.”
From @reineyday “oh friend killer kakashi. chuunin at 6, jounin at 12 and anbu at 13 😔
carrying his father's suicide with him as well as his inability to save his mentor or do anything abt the kid they left behind
watched one of his anbu team members who was even younger than him go off the rails and murder his ENTIRE family. except for one (1) kid that kakashi then had to mentor and then THAT kid ALSO went off the rails
nobody's tried and failed harder than u 😔👊”
.
Komaeda: “Komaeda is caught up in an endless cycle of something horrible happening, only to receive a small ""consolation prize"" that means nothing compared to what he lost. It leaves him paranoid and worried whenever something good happens, because something horrible will certainly happen next. Komaeda displays frightening and bizarre behaviour throughout the game that alienates him from his peers, but when viewed through the context of both his trauma and his dementia, it makes a lot of sense. He's a mess of contradictions all taped together with his beliefs about talent and fixation on hope--the coping mechanisms that gets him through this horrible cycle. If something bad happens, something good will happen, and he just has to wait and hope for it."
“komaeda is like THE white hair and trauma guy. the whitest hair, Absurd Amounts Of Incredible Trauma. he’s everything. he’s mentally ill, he’s pathetic, he’s intelligent, he’s lowkey a eugenicist but it’s implied he gets better, he’s a whore, he’s queer coded, the anime shows us his entire ass because they know he’s popular. he’s the fingers in his ass guy. if anyone deserves to win the white hair and trauma tournament it’s komaeda”
“every human kins komaeda on some base level. kinning komaeda is what seperates us from dogs”
“to me he's the original whitehair traumaboy. i can't not submit him”
“i know hes a tumblr sexyman and all but he's genuinely such an interesting character i dont think hes that overrated. he deserves to get far <3”
“The trauma caused by his Luck Cycle has instilled such a warped way of thinking to cope with the world that he goes out of his way to cause misery and challenges for others to overcome because he thinks the worse things happen the better the things that happen after will be, which is really compelling in a fucked up kind of way. You'd never even guess either because he's so chipper, I mean just look at him he just looks happy to be here.”
“literally the first character that came to mind for obvious reasons. he is perhaps the least mentally well boy with white hair of all time”
“Nagito Komaeda. He's silly.”
