The first 6 months of 2019
So I realize my previous post was a little bit on the depressing side, which makes sense because it was written when I was pretty much rock bottom. Those who’ve read it (and in the unlikely case, cared) might wonder if they should put me on suicide watch somehow.
Well the good news is, you don’t have to.
I’m doing ok now.
I’m doing great actually.
Let’s recap on what happened during that difficult time period:
- My parents’ health health improved greatly. My mom is even traveling again. My dad, while never quite recovered from the last time, is currently stable.
-My wife’s condition hadn’t changed, obviously, but we’re aiming to go through an IVF, and if that fail, we’ll shoot for a surrogate, we’re definitely not giving up.
- As for me personally, I’ve found myself improving leaps and bounds during the last period. I landed a great job, one where I get the opportunity to learn a lot new skills. During the last six months, I’ve learned: screen design (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD), HTML CSS with Bootstrap, Scrum methodology, product design process etc.
So yeah, it’s been going great.
The Fast, and the Furious
Just finished watching Fast 7 yesterday, which I hope, for its own sake, is the last installment of its series. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad or anything, quite the contrary in fact. The ending is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful endings in the history of modern cinema, something I never expected to see from a popcorn flick like this, but that’s exactly why it needs to be THE END. You wouldn’t want another Scrubs season 8, would you?
Backtrack some years ago, in 2001 when the first of the series was released, I was FOB and highly engrossed with the game Need for Speed, so naturally the movie made an impression on me. The following FF releases were however, underwhelming. They were entertaining, yes, but nothing was memorable about them. They continued to entertain us for the next decade, until Fast 5 suddenly upped the ante turn the whole series into one of the most commercially successful franchise ever. (it is still the best FF movie ever released, according to fan votes).
The last 6 months of 2018
• Had me unemployed for 5 months, luckily I’m fully employed now
• Had my mom hospitalized and diagnosed for lung cancer, plus she might have a serious condition with her legs that may prevent her from walking in a year or 2. Luckily the lung cancer thing was a false alarm.
• Had my dad hospitalized for anxiety issues, plus a severe case of shingles that almost took out his right eye. He barely even sleeps these days, living through constant pain on the right side of his head.
• Had my wife diagnosed for unicornuate uterus , a rare congenital uterine malformation that massively reduce her ability to get pregnant. And even if she did, the chance of miscarriage or stillborn is over 50%, we can’t have that.
My wife will never experience pregnancy.
We considered surrogate, but it’s mostly illegal in Vietnam (they only allow siblings to be surrogates, what the fuck? Vietnamese lawmakers at their best). Thailand also disallowed non-Thai citizens to use this service in their country, plus going that route will definitely bankrupt us. We still have so many projects we want to carry out.
2018 sucked, and 2019 is not looking any better.

Reason why I believe #Steam will meet its demise in a few years. 2018 and it still couldn’t do one of the most basic thing in a game distribution platform: creating a folder.
August had been nothing but one failure after another. September, please be kind

To be honest, I thought turning 30 would be a bigger milestone, for me personally at least.
I mean, I don’t have anything to complain about my current situation per se, I have a job that I enjoy, a wife that I love, a house. Honestly this is as good as any 30er would get. But is that all there is? I mean is this going to be like this for the rest of my life. Like that old saying, you know? “Some people are dead by 30, but never buried until they’re 75″.

How was my weekend?
Well let’s see, on Saturday I found out that the so-called specialist I hired to clean my DSLR sensor last week managed to damage my sensor. I didn’t found out until I transferred all the photos I took on a wedding that morning to my computer and realized they were completely FUBAR. Not to mention the sensor probably will take a fortune to fix.
But that was Saturday, Sunday should be better right? Well yeah if you don’t count the fact that I had to spend half the day driving my new puppy to clinics to find out why he decided to shit and puke blood. Turned out he somehow managed to catch Parvovirus, something that costs yet another fortune to treat, not to mention the dreaded 80% mortality rate.
But at least I got a new mouse pad at the end of the day, so I still got that going for me.
So yeah, my weekend went fucking great, thanks for asking.
