❝ i should be offended but i can see where you’re coming from, ❞ she laughed, ❝ this is the first time, though. ❞ but she couldn’t take too much credit as it was also her first time actually baking something as well. ❝ tea. they’re all about keeping us happy so our parents will give them more money. ❞ 

❝ thank you, thank you, ❞ she said while giving small curtsies, or her best attempt at some given her arms were occupied. ❝ that would be amazing, thanks, ❞ she stopped to tilt her head to the side to see who she was speaking with, ❝ seth! how many boxes do you wanna grab? ❞ she was excited to regaining her frontal vision along with giving her arms a lighter load. ❝ teacher’s lounge! it’ll be easy to get rid of boxes there. ❞

❝ will do! ❞ she grinned, walking towards the middle of their school. she didn’t know why she didn’t think of this before, it seemed so obvious. ❝ hey! ❞ she gave him a hurt expression before lightly bumping him with her shoulder. ❝ i’ll let you know, this is only the second time this has happened to me, ❞ she was just kidding, it was her first but she wanted to assert her wittiness. ❝ i know right? honestly, it’s the school’s fault for giving us lockers that are the perfect size for holding egg cartons. they’re enablers. ❞ 

❝ did you? i bet — ❞ she laughed before she could say her joke, but she quickly collected herself,❝ i bet mowgli is shaking. ❞ it wasn’t everyday you could reference the jungle book. ❝ bless, you’re my hero, ❞ she does a mock-bow as he takes even more box. she moves slightly closer to him as she looks at his piece, ❝ ooh, i like it! now, is this a design you’re thinking of getting or is it just for fun? ❞

❝ maybe the quad? i think that’s a good place to give these out, ❞ she adjusted her hands as he took some of the boxes. ❝ i mean, i never have good ideas so accidental ones would be a major improvement. ❞ a burst of laughter escaped as she heard his description, ❝ don’t forget the eggs, those are the worst. ❞ 

❝ yeah, that would be great, thanks! ❞ she nodded at his suggestion, wondering why she didn’t think of this before, ❝ that’s smart, remind me to come to you for business problems i have. i promise i’m fine with them! i’m a theatre kid, i deal with criticism every day. ❞ 

❝ yeah, i figured it would be the easiest to get rid of them, ❞ though the more she thought about it, the more she realized she should’ve just donated the pastries, ❝ if i have any extras, i’ll just give them to a soup kitchen or something. ❞ she was expecting one box to be taken away and her merriment only grew when it was two. finally, she could see. ❝ thanks, nikki, ❞ she said towards the other’s action and complement, ❝ honestly, this is the only thing i really know how to make but i’ll definitely stop by and see if anyone wants some. ❞

❝ which videos do you watch? i always get stuck in the vine and tiktok compilation hole. ❞ she watched one video on a whim and they kept showing up on her recommendations. she wasn’t complaining, though, they were always entertaining. ❝ tell me about it, i had to do an all nighter the day before just to try and fix it. it kind of worked but i was suffering. ❞

just one of the boxes were gone and she could see much better and her smile only grew when she saw alek. ❝ god, alek, didn’t your parents teach you not to talk with your mouth full? ❞ she teased, barley able to make out what he said, ❝ but, i’m glad you like them. don’t hesitate to take as many boxes as you want. ❞ she eyed his closed sketchbook as she took the seat next to him, ❝ what’cha working on, though? ❞ 

❝ it’s actually a pretty wild story. so, my friend’s girlfriend got pregnant and today was supposed to be her baby shower but she ended up having her baby early so the party got cancelled. it was kind of her fault cause her mom said not to have it so close to her due date but she wanted everyone to be back from summer vacation. anyways, i was in charge of dessert. ❞

❝ yes, i’m specifically trying to poison you by trying to make you pity me, ❞ she laughed, ❝ did it work? ❞ she backpedaled to his previous question, ❝ the drama club is having a bake sale but i read the date wrong so i’m left with all of these, and i can’t save them cause the actual bake sale is in a week and that’s too long. ❞

she returned kalani’s smile with a nod and quickly unlocked her locker so she could free up her arms, only keeping her pre-calculus textbook with her. although there was some tension between them, rothy honestly didn’t feel it and she began to feel more at ease around her old friend. she nodded at kalani’s explanation, ❝ i get what you mean, but i did it to myself cause i was staying up watching youtube videos. ❞ she closed her locker and clasped it. ❝ it doesn’t help that summer totally fucked up my sleeping schedule. ❞

she probably looked ridiculous, carrying eight containers and walking aimlessly around school. ❝ i swear, i’m like those people in math problems. rothy accidentally bakes 96 balkavas   —    anyways, i accidentally made 96 baklavas; please take some. ❞ she, honestly, didn’t know who she was talking to as her vision was blocked by the tuppleware but she could see their shadow. whoever it was, she just hoped they would accept her offer.
