Are the seven flowers of autumn somewhat related to the seven rainbow pearls?
As far as we know there are seven rainbow pearls, each one a different color which made us believe they are linked to the seven main characters from Inuyasha, because you an easily pair each character with one specific pearl:
Grey/Silver â Sesshomaru
Now, I was rewatching the first episode of Yashahime and I noticed this little exchange between Kagome and Sango as they walk back to the village:
It is a very casual exchange but it caught my attention because it comes out of nowhere, and their conversation gets interrupted by Hisuiâs cry and we donât know why they were talking about it. Now, I did my research and I found this:
The poem was written by Yamanoue no Okura, a Japanese poet. It can be found in the Manyoshu, Japanâs oldest know collection of poems.
when I count them on my fingers
The flowers of bush clover,
and morning faces flower.
When I first noticed this I thought maybe each flower was a different color (just like the pearls), and as I began researching I realized some of the flowers can be paired with a character, although some of the colors donât match (the Obana with Sesshomaru, Kikyou with Kagome, Nadeshiko with Sango, Fujibakama with Miroku to some extent). I donât think itâs a coincidence Kagome mentioned seven autumn flowers and we have seven mysterious pearls, although Iâm not sure how they are related. I just wanted to put my little research out in the universe.
Ominaeshi (Patrinia Scabiosifolia)
It was said to be so beautiful it overshadowed the beauty of women. Also known as the maiden flower. The word Ominaeshi (ć„łéè±) refers to a young woman or maiden. It represents beauty, kindness, fleeting love and consideration.
Obana/Susuki (Japanese Silver Grass)
Closely associated with the autumn moon and the monlit sky, as it is put on display during moon viewings. It is believed to bring safety and good health. It ranges from pale silver to deep purplish-red depending on the variety. It represents power, life energy and vitality.
In Kanji characters, Obana is written éè± which means âmale flowerâ. If you break down the characters, é can also mean âmasculineâ, âpowerfulâ, âgrandâ or to describe a powerful or influential person or state.Â
Kikyou (Bellflower or Balloon Flower, Platycodon)
It has bluish purple leaves. The dried roots have effects on sputum and cough (just like Kagome explained to the twins). It is a symbol of friendship, endless love, elegance and sincerity.
The flowerâs name is written like this æĄæą. However, apparently the word Kikyou can have another meaning if you spell it like this ćž°äșŹ, which is âreturning to Tokyoâ. If you break down the characters, ćž° means âhomecomingâ, âarrive atâ, âlead toâ, âresult inâ; while äșŹ means âcapitalâ.
Nadeshiko/Kawaranadeshiko (Dianthus, Carnation)
A symbol of the beauty and elegance of Japanese women. âYamato Nadeshikoâ is a Japanese expression meant to describe a woman who possesses the ideal classical Japanese feminine attributes (poised, decorous, kind, gentle, graceful, humble, patient, virtuous, respectful, benevolent, honest, charitable, faithful). Also used to describe the epitome of pure, feminine beauty. Usually pink in color, light pink Carnations symbolize mother-like love and express gratitude, while dark pink Carnations are used to express tenderness and fondness.
In Kanji characters, Nadeshiko is written æ«ć, which means âa lovable, caressable childâ or âa child you can caressâ. The Carnation is heavily related with Motherâs Day in many cultures worldwide. Because of the belief that they first appeared on earth from the Virgin Maryâs tears, it is the symbol of a motherâs undying love. It represents pure love, innocence, chastity, talent, boldness and fearless.
It has tiny white blossoms tinged with purple atop long stems. It has a subtle fragrance, and it is used for clearing away heat and toxic materials. Reference to the flower in poetry usually connotes a man rather than a woman. Many poems allude to its fragrance being the only memento left of a departed lover.
In Kanji characters, Fujibakama is written è€èąŽ. The first character, è€ means wisteria (a shade of purple) and èąŽ is a Japanese male formal attire.
It is a symbol of caring, hesitancy and fond and pleasing memories.
II didnât find much about this one, except that it is heavily used as food and medicine, and that it is considered invasive in many parts of the world. It represents healing, vitality, patience, determination, strength of spirit and the loverâs sigh.
It is a popular autumnal symbol, associated with melancholy and unrequited love. It represents meditation, bashfulness, affection, positive love and flexible spirit.
