haechan has always been known as the prankster of slytherin house

he’s just naturally good at tricking people

being cunning, suave, and kind-of-maybe an evil genius are all pretty much requirements for slytherin

and also just a big part of haechan’s personality

plus espite being in the rival house of gryffindor, jisung  is always willing to help out 

just so he doesnt end up being a victim and he gets a good laugh out of it all

haechan has done it all; sold fake laughing potions that turned peoples hair green, stolen magical brooms from quidditch players only to replace them with actual muggle brooms that couldnt lift off the ground no matter how much you barked spells at it, and even managed to sneak in a hippogriff into the office of one of his teachers 

so when he shows up in front of you in the dinning hall

nervously looking around, his uniform tie half hanging off his neck in an unkempt manner

a box of chocolate frogs in his hands

it’s safe to say,,,,,,,,you’re a little concerned

from somewhere in the hall you hear chenle let out a wolf whistle, followed by renjuns enthusiastic “just ask them!”

you raise an eyebrow, holding your books to your chest and waiting for whatever prank he has in store now

“d-do you want to go to the yule ball with me?”

he asks, his usual confidence faltering as he stutters just a bit

you stare at his outstretched hand, the box of chocolates, and the reddening of his cheeks

and

burst into laughter

the entire hall turns to the sound

and you shake your head

“you expect me to be dumb enough to take that box? i know there’s no chocolates in there, there’s probably snakes or biting spiders!”

haechan doesn’t budge, doesn’t burst into laughter with you either

but you just assume he’s all upset his little joke didn’t work

you pat his shoulder

“nice try, but you need to think of a better prank next time - this one let me down haechan!”

and with that you brush past him, ready to go to charms class

as haechan stands there - frozen

holding the box of ACTUAL chocolate frogs

the rest of the hall kind of shifts, not sure if you were right about it being a prank - or if you just,,,,,,kind of,,,,,burned poor haechan with a flat out rejection

chenle takes in a deep sigh, putting his head in his hands with embarrassment from his friend

as renjun murmurs that that’s what happens when you play around too much

a couple of hours later, word gets around of what happened in the hall

how you’d shot down haechan, thinking his actual invitation was all just fun and games

and how now, haechan was moping around the grounds

refusing to go to class and not even laughing when mark tells him he nearly poked jisung’s eye out with his wand

you catch wind of it pretty late, you’re already in your room when a friend suddenly appears and asks if you’re going to apologize to haechan

you knit your brows, putting your textbook down and asking why in the world you’d do that

he should apologize for trying to trick you

but then you learn the truth and ,, oh gosh you feel terrible

that night, haechan is hanging around the clock tower - to upset and slightly embarrassed to show his face in the commons or in school

when he hears a sound and looks up from the ledge he’s sitting on to see you

you’re on your broom - obviously shivering in your pajamas without your uniform cloak

his eyes cast down and he immediately tells you to just leave him alone

but you fly closer 

“haechan,,,,,im sorry - i really thought you were joking,,,,,”

he huffs, crossing his arms

“not everything i do is always a prank.”

“i know, but i just - i expected you’d make me look dumb and i didn’t want you to so i just,,,”

he still looks upset, muttering that well whatever - you did make him look dumb and there was nothing to do about it anyway

you sigh, “but had i known it wasnt a prank i would have said yes. of course i want to go to the yule ball with you.”

this makes haechan look up

his pretty dark eyes suddenly don’t look so overcast 

“really ,,,,?”

he tests and you nod, reaching your hand out for him to take

slowly he pulls you into the clock tower and you get off your broom, taking a seat at the ledge with him

and pulling out a small box

you hand it to him and he hesitates before opening it

inside is a tiny, wrapped chocolate frog

“is this a trick?”

he says sarcastically, taking it out and biting into it

you grin, shaking your head “no - it’s an im sorry for being such a jerk, but also ,,,,,,”

haechan looks at you, blinking

and then poof!

he’s changed out of his uniform robes into a fancy navy tux

“hey! you put a spell in this frog!”

he exclaims

“so it was kind of a trick,,,,but also you look great.”

he touches the tux, but then laughs and takes his own wand out

with a couple of words you feel your outfit transform too

and you two get up, admiring each other before coming closer

“we should practice dancing,,,,,,so we’ll look good at the ball”

he suggests putting out his hand

you accept and you two twirl around the clock tower

laughing and enjoying the night breeze

until you hear someones voice call up for whoevers up there to come down right this instant -it’s past curfew!

you and haechan mutter spells to turn back into your normal clothing and without a second, haechan grabs your broom and pulls you on too

the two of you flying off to escape getting in trouble

your arms around his waist and cheek pressed against the warmth of his back

in the morning you and haechan walk into the dining hall holding hands

and everyone lets out a sigh of relief

except chenle who puts his head down on the table, nearly smashing it into his pumpkin oatmeal

“if even haechan can get a date,,,,,,i better start looking too”
