lidcs:
if only he weren’t hooked up to a heart monitor that gave his every emotion away. if only lido weren’t attached to every machine in the room, essentially rendering him motionless. despite everything that had happened that night, the look on his face could kill if nadia hadn’t built up an immunity to it over the years. it was ironic how the one girl he wanted to scare off with outward rage paired with very little inward substance was the one who wouldn’t run away regardless of how many times he warned her to. there was a glare shot her way, his teeth digging into the skin of his mouth as he fought the urge to speak, to scream, and to cry. what did a man have to do for a moment’s peace? apparently, getting shot wasn’t the answer, but lido was prepared to find out the secret. “you got that right,” he mustered, voice shaky as he forced the words from behind crooked teeth. his tongue burned as he spoke, probably spiting him for everything he said and everything he chose not to. he’d never had a knack for keeping quiet or telling where the line had been drawn, but the iv drip is doing a number on his mind. perhaps he could be persuaded by a means more chemical to behave. “that’s weird. you never wanted to make sure i was okay before. do i have to almost die for you to care? is that what this is?” he asked, completely out of line as he hurled one accusation after another at nadia. she wasn’t in the wrong, but lido felt that she was. how dare she come into his hospital room and act like the last year of their lives weren’t spent in a bitter battle of sharp tongues and broken promises. “i’m fine, thanks so much for asking. i’ve been in worse pain before,” he said, turning away from her and struggling to cross his arms among the tangle of wires attached to him. there was no doubt that lido loved his dramatics and every word he spoke paid tribute to that. “if you have anything to say, you can save it for my birthday. i know how much it turns you on to fuck that up.”
the tone in his voice already gave it away. there was the sense of regret forming within her once again as she continued to avert his gaze. she was trying her damned best to avoid another argument as he spoke, though it was more so for his benefit rather than the both of them. with a roll of her eyes, she finally looked at him once she heard him speak yet again, eyes locked to his as the frown that was plastered on her face ceased to fall. “would you have cared if i did back then? you told me you were done, did you not? told me you wanted nothing to do with whatever it is we had? so what use would it have been to make sure you were okay if you obviously didn’t care at all. what i would have said would have been useless since you probably wouldn’t have listened. fuck, i know i’m sounding pretty damn hypocritical since i’m visiting you right now when i just said all of that, but can you blame me for wanting to visit for this? like, what the hell happened to you? i mean, i know shit hasn’t been easy between us, but you can’t fucking blame me with wanting to visit, li. i mean, literally all i hear is that you got shot and that you were in the hospital...” and with that her words cease, not knowing what else to say as she stares at all the things connected to the male, all the minuscule beeping coming from the room, and she’s rendered speechless once more. unsure of what to say at that point, nadia ran her fingers through her hair, a soft sigh escaping her as she took a few steps closer. it was weird seeing him that way, though like true lido fashion, a mishap like what he had gone through didn’t deter him from speaking his mind at all, didn’t prevent him from giving the attitude she’d learned to get used to after years. eventually, she managed to speak once more, the question burning in the back of her mind, her curiosity overriding everything else, “what type of shit did you get into, li?” shaking her head at his childish behaviour, nadia simply stayed in her place, knowing that if she’d do more, if she moved closer to him and somewhat confronted him, things would intensify and she didn’t want that. not now that he was here in the hospital. nadia scoffed at his next set of words, “are you seriously giving me that right now? it was a fucking year ago, lido! a year ago. and it’s not like it’s my life’s mission to fuck up all your other birthdays, okay? last year it was just.. it was something i had to do back then. but look,” nadia spoke, not wanting to fight with him anymore, “ if you don’t want me here, then just say it. tell me and i’ll leave. ”
