I mentioned in the author’s note of The Peculiar Perils of Straw Hat Parties that I was working on a design for the Polar Tang for that fic (and any subsequent fics involving Law’s submarine), and as I get ready to publish chapter 3 here it is, as promised! Summary: Falling from fifth-story balconies is not how Rosinante normally meets girls, but he knows an opportunity when he sees one.

Excerpt: He was lucky he was still alive, they told him. A fall from a five-story building would have killed most people. He ought to thank the stars and his genetics. Genetics, ha! Rosinante would have liked to tell them that he was the product of several generations of decadence and inbreeding, but he kept his mouth shut. Better to seethe in silence than to take the chance that a nurse with a grudge would tiptoe into his hospital room at night and smother him with a pillow.

He had three broken ribs, a punctured lung, a broken arm, two broken legs and a concussion. The pain, surprisingly, was not bad, though perhaps he only thought that because he’d seen worse.

(The morphine probably helped, too.)

“Huh? What’s wrong?” Corazon asked and then looked down at Law before bursting out laughing, “Hahaha! What a face! You look like you ate a lemon kid!”

“Shut up idiot!” Law snapped, “You could’ve told me there was umeboshi in this onigiri!”

“Huh? That’s what’s got you upset?” Corazon then grabbed the onigiri and took a bite, “Tastes fine to me!”

“You actually like that crap?” Law looked disgusted as he watched the tall blond finish off the onigiri, “You’re a weirdo. How can you like that and hate bread?”

Corazon rolled his eyes, “Bread gets stale easily…umeboshi doesn’t go bad as quickly.”

“Whatever.”

“It’s what my girlfriend told me.”

Law spat out his tea when he heard that and looked at Corazon, “You had a girlfriend?”

“Sure did.”

“Who the hell wanted to date you?! Were they desperate? OUCH!” Law clutched his head as Corazon snacked it.

“Hey now! I’m more of a catch than you think kid!” Corazon said and his face turned pink, “Besides…if anyone was the desperate one…it was probably me.”

“What was she like?”

Corazon chuckled as smoke came out of his mouth, “Oh? Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“Just answer the stupid question.”

“Well…” Corazon looked up at the sky, “She may have looked like a thug but she was very kind…reckless and brash but she always meant well. Actually I was going to bum a cigarette off of her when I tripped and she laughed her ass off before telling me what a bad idea that was because I was a walking fire hazard.”

“She’s not wrong.”

“Yeah…” Corazon’s brownish-red eyes softened, “Belle she…she was one of a kind.”

“So what happened?”

“We lost touch.” Corazon shrugged, “It happens. Last I heard she went back to her home island in East Blue but that was a good while ago.”

“Did…did you love her?”

“Yeah….still do actually.”

“How do you know for sure?”

Corazon looked at Law, “Huh? What’s this? Trying to get dating advice out of me?” he then pinched Law’s cheek, “How cute! You’re growing up so fast!”

Law glared, “Sh-shut up! And put out that cigarette before you light yourself on fire again dumbass!”
