Jay is a Trainwreck

“Make sure you let them know how dire the circumstances are, okay, princess?”

These two…they looked 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥.

Elian stepped back from the cell door as the other two approached it. The looks in their eyes alone were unlike anything she’d ever seen in Ezra’s. He was angry at her, hurt 𝘣𝘺 her, but he’d never seemed excited to hurt her. He’d never lusted after her suffering.

“We have a job to do to earn our keep,” he told her as two people she didn’t know joined him. “It’s important you don’t try to put on a brave face. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can go.”

Elian tried not to let him see how she lost her breath. He’d always been so eager to get in over his head—what had he involved them in? Whose collar was this? Whose facility? What had Ezra promised them and how much more would they want than what they’d told him?

Ezra sighed. “That’s the thing—I can’t. It’s not my collar.”

“I’m going to give you one opportunity to be reasonable,” Ezra said softly. “You can admit all this was a mistake and that you want out. Agree to come with me once we’re done here.”

It ignored her. Not even a flicker of a spark showed itself.

“They say it renders you human in terms of ability,” Ezra mused. “Doesn’t affect your constitution, though.”

Elian rolled her eyes this time. There was no point in talking to him—he was too pompous to bother. She took stock of her body instead, pleased to find she was entirely intact and unblemished. But this collar…

“Don’t know, to be honest. Some humans I have common interests with. I’m scratching their back, they’re scratching mine.”

Ezra rolled his eyes.

“Where is he?” Elian growled out, fingers falling away from the collar around her neck. She wasn’t even surprised to see Ezra, or the lows he’d stooped to.

But it looked like she was in…jail? Her coat was gone, as well as her shoes. Her hair had fallen down and something was heavy, so 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘺 on her neck…

She didn’t see him. Didn’t see anyone. Didn’t recognize anything.

And if Glen dragged his feet, both Elian and her phone would do plenty to speed him along.

“She will,” Ezra said, palming the phone in his pocket. It had taken mere seconds to unlock it with Elian’s unconscious face and disable the lock altogether. He’d turned location services off as quickly as he could, but kept the signal on. He wanted to see any messages she got. Any calls.
