today iβm editing a corporate interview. listening to the panelists speak, i am reminded of the essays i wrote in high school, with 2 hours left until the deadline and a seemingly unshrinking word count. with an inhale i right-click synonym on every word, finding the largest lettered, flowery word to stretch my work from 800 to the 2000 word finish line.
adults sloppily string long syllables and buzz words into a neat little box, wrapped around a clumsy little package of hair and teeth. we shed our wild skins and put on a pretty mink coat, bleached and synthesised pink. in this coat we are quite snug, and we can practice our data analysis and our technology and our shares. and we wonβt talk about the quiet itch of the faux fur around our neck.
but secretly, when we get home, off the city bus
we let this mink drop to the floor and we stretch our backs
we curl up in our nest and we put our skin back on. it fits us perfectly. of course it does.
