Man spends a day making candy and ice cream for everyone and then at the end is like "dang, really should have planned more well rounded meals, ah well lets fix that". He would not complain about someone knocking back half a pizza or having a big ass soda and greasy burger, hed explain how its cool to eat like that long as you try and make sure to keep yourself rounded and not neglect the food groups

Goes from Pride & Prejudice to Apocalypse Now with stops in proletariat revolution, Alexandre Dumas, and high fantasy. A handful in a review, but beautifully handled with incredible poise in the novel. Perhaps my own republicanism is showing, but I saw the shoe dropping long before it hit the mud. That's a minor quibble; more significantly, the final few chapters felt rushed and perhaps even unnecessary - especially on the heels of the genuinely profound return from war which had me in tears. Overall, an incredibly immersive and stunningly formed novel - an instant favourite!
