“I think things are l-likely safer there now. I’ve just got a l-lot of bad memories and it isn’t somewhere that I w-would like yo go back to.” Kathryn replied, shrugging at the younger boy. “I wouldn’t worry t-too much about it, but at the same t-time I would be careful.”

Myles nodded his head, understanding. “Yeah, I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t want to go back either. That’s crazy.” He really couldn’t wrap his head around all these bad things that happened at this school. “Thanks for telling me, I’ll definitely be way more careful now.”

Well, thank you. I’ve always loved Halloween, there is something exciting about it.

“Right? I like the whole idea that the ghosts come out more during this day. That makes it seem a little more thrilling. My name is Myles, by the way.”

“Sweet baby, you’re too precious.”

“The year before s-someone got hit by a car, and from what I h-heard they don’t think it was an accident.” Kathryn replied, looking down at her hands. It was hard for her to talk about the death of her classmate, because she had ultimately been the one to find the body. “T-this part year someone got arrested f-for a kidnapping. As far as I know s-she hasn’t admitted to the murder, but we all know t-that she did it.”

“Damn,” he whispered, looking away from her. How could he have not heard of these awful things? “Jesus, I hope nothing like that happens there again. That’s terrible.” He shook his head. “I’m kind of regretting switching schools now.” 

People around here really seem to be great at spreading the news, which is great honestly. I went with a classic vampire, but I must agree that some people came up with some insane stuff.

“Hey, nothing wrong with a little classic vampire look. You’re rocking it, honestly.” 

“Well, at least it is the one day a year you get to dress up like someone you are not?”

“Yes,” he nodded his head. “And I wasted it by dressing up like a ghost.” He looked at himself, dressed in a white sheet.

“Then why bother? I mean, Halloween is so overrated anyway.” She responded.

“You think?” Myles smiled, a small tilt to his head. “I don’t know, I’ve always thought it was a nice little escape-from-reality sort of day.” He shrugged. “Other then that I really believe that ghosts come out on this day.”

See, I am all about parties. I haven’t been to one in a while though so I was glad to hear about this one.

“Honestly, I’d be surprised if someone didn’t hear about it.” Myles chuckled. “I’m enjoying seeing all the costumes, some people are so creative.”

“Well, you s-should consider yourself lucky that the only things g-going on there at the moment is b-bullying. When I was there a girl was k-killed by being pushed off of the r-roof.” Kathryn replied, sending him a weak smile. She didn’t want to scare him but he deserved to know about the kind of things that school attracted.

“Killed!?” Myles’s eyebrows shot up, and his mouth hung open. This was quite surprising to him, he hadn’t heard of this. “Jesus, maybe I should’ve done more research before I just applied to this school.” He shook his head. Myles was beginning to regret his switching schools and moving there. “That’s awful, did the person who push her off get arrested?”

“It’s going to be a blast.”

“Yeah,” he nodded his head. “Nice costume, by the way.” He complimented and smiled. 

I like parties, they’re not my favorite, but its a nice break from working so much

“Oh, yeah, definitely. It’s nice to just get a break from school.” Myles nodded. “You look familiar, do you go to Akamai?”

Kat had to laugh at the bully joke. He really was younger than her. Kat scrunched her nose, “That’s true I could have anything I want. And not to be asshole, but think of your time being a treat instead of you purchasing things for me. ” She said, bumping her shoulder back into his lightly. It was the truth and maybe it would keep him from trying to spend money on her. Kat had to laugh at his imagery, she wasn’t at all picturing eggs on a model until now. “Sure, basic New York coffee house here we come.” She said in a playful enthusiastic voice. 

Myles thought about it, and nodded. “Alright, I’ll do that. I enjoy hanging out with you quite a bit, as you know, I don’t exactly have an abundance of friends.” He rubbed the back of his neck, shrugging. For a friendly guy, Myles didn’t really have a ton of friends to call his own. Sometimes he was too nice, a naivety nice. “Sounds perfect.” He licked his lips, couldn’t wait. “How’s your career going? Is it fun being a celebrity?”
