Most recently I came across an argument from a local tumblr anti-vaxxer, who, like many other anti-vaxxers, could not provide a shred of concrete evidence other than “redirecting” me to “sources” that he/she had not read themselves or read the title without actually diving into the article. From my experience I usually find they take an abstract piece of factual information, remove it from any and all context, and then use that to fear monger.
My favourite came from “death is listed as a side effect in the product monograph”. When I asked which vaccine in particular so that we can look at the same source I was told “all of them, you can pick any one”. I picked gardasil as this was the most recent vaccine I had experience with. (I have included the portion on deaths from the said product monograph) and wouldn’t you know it:
1) deaths were almost identical in treatment vs placebo groups
2) nowhere is there any evidence in vaccines actually causing deaths and in fact for certain things the placebo group had more death.
3) most common cause of death - car accident. Followed by drug overdose (OD death numbers were HIGHER in those that did NOT receive the vaccine.
There is a reason why the anti-vaxx arguments come from mom blogs and not from anyone with any intellectual substance.
