Jae's Illustration Corner

In class, we were tasked with creating infographics based on our knowledge of design principles, copyright problems, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other concepts of graphic design. 

This first infographic is about Color Space, briefly comparing CYMK and RGB. 

Created for a video project in Graphic Design, this short animation is 94 frames long. Drawn completely in Photoshop and edited in Premiere Pro, the animation took approximately 3-4 weeks of off and on work. For the sake of time and sanity, my animation is only in black and white with two tones of gray used to fill in the MC (main character) and the moving effects (i.e. the fire and water). When I have more time, there will be more added onto the animation as well as a little more color added to it as well. 

This site is probably my favorite site that I have seen regarding concept art. The large slideshow at the top shows the top picks of the hour or the day, I'm not quite sure. The squares where the newest articles/artists are previewed is also pleasing to the eye with its organizations. The Bad: Concept Art.org This site is not as pleasing to the eye, the pictures that are being showcased aren't exactly organized. They're just stacked very lackadaisical down the page. While the page where you can find job listings is very neat, although a bit plain, the art showcase--a page that should also be very neat and pleasing to the eye--is not in the least and takes away from the overall aesthetic of the site. And as of the moment Artists page seems to be down. 

In between designing a website, we have been also working on designing a logo. We could decide between a logo for ourselves and a logo for our website. I chose a logo for myself. 

The first two images in this photoset are from my sketchbook and are the prototype designs. 

For the first image I was contemplating on what I could include in my logo. My name is the obvious choice but for under it I was having trouble. Should I only include illustration or should I add concept design since both fields are what I’m planning to go into. 

I decided to include concept design under the line. After a bit of talking with my brother in law, a fellow graphic designer, I decided to include something that would give an example of the kind of illustration I would do. So that led to me adding a sketched out head shot, the second image has a compiled collection of the placement of the sketch and the posing of the sketch. 

The last three images in the photo set are the semi-finished logo. The first image was the best of my hand written name, with the loops being perfected. The second image is the clean version of the concepts seen in the very first image of the photo set. I added a radial white to transparent gradient to the loops of the J and the y so that the words below could stand apart and be easily readable. 

In the final image I changed the dividing line because it looked better than the first divider. Making space between my first and last name so that I could add the head shot later. 

Regarding the font and color choices. Right now the logo is in black and white so that everything is easier to see and once I’ve decided on how I want it to look, I’ll make it a template so that I can easily change the color on it.
