Short Missing Moment set after Bill has been attacked by Greyback.

“Bill’s awake,” Ginny said as she stepped through the portrait hole.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione were sitting in their favourite spot by the fireplace.

“I saw Fleur,” she continued, slumping into the seat next to Harry.

“She asked if I’d go up to keep him company — which of course I would, he is my brother,” she said, frustration dripping off every word.

“Honestly…” she sighed dramatically. “I’ve almost let myself accept that he’s going to marry her.”

She gave Harry a cheeky wink.Harry squeezed her hand and grinned back.

“Enough, you two,” Ron chimed in, looking pointedly at Harry and Ginny. “Let’s go now, before you start giving each other lovey-dovey eyes.”

Harry thought about that word — love — a lot while they were sitting with Bill in the hospital wing. He watched Ginny animatedly talking to her brother. He knew she was hurting, afraid for her family, for her friends. Yet watching her now — smiling, laughing with her brothers and Hermione, taking each moment as it came — he felt a warmth that made his chest ache.

He was in love with her. The feelings had been there, almost since their first kiss, but he hadn’t known what they were. Harry had never really heard the words I love you — at least, not that he could remember.

“You okay, Harry?” Ron’s voice sounded distant, almost muffled, like it came through water.

“Huh? I’m fine,” he mumbled, standing up. “Just need some fresh air.”

Funny coincidence actually because I have been thinking about this childhood friends to lovers for a few months, maybe a little over a year and I just started working on it earlier this week since I was so incredibly stuck with CMH and THEN I came across that post

So I'm writing something in that area but actually not precisely that?

17. Talk about an accidental writing habit you're trying to quit

So one that I've actually managed to quit was starting any scene with "Harry was" or "character x was" and if you look at my older stuff you'll see that in there.

Recently I've been doing a lot of hand squeezes apparently, so I need to come up with a better way to show off silent support.

In Cross My Heart the chapter titles are songs and sometimes it's just about the title but I try often to go for lyrics that more or less match as well and I don't feel like many people notice

When Harry doesn't know how to tell Ginny how gorgeous she is and especially if he's a bit drunk or otherwise inhebriated, he just goes 'pretty...' instead (while smiling dumbly) and Ginny thinks it's adorable

Arthur Weasley! I know it's easy to let Molly lead the conversation and honestly I have done that myself too but Arthur has enormous emotional intelligence and you can see his fatherly skills shine through when he talks to Harry and you know Harry doesn't do well with authority and isn't very trusting but you know that Harry deeply deeply respects him. It's one of the only adultsHarry confides in and Arthur doesn't completely hear him out but he does tell Harry what's in his best interest. Arthur has a lot of integrity and bravery and that's so so important. Also he raised 7 skilled intelligent children. He's just cool and I'm working on showing off his character a bit more in my fics

3. talk abiout a home decor you love to mention Accidentally coffee tables... I don't know I often end up going "oh this was a gift by" and now I'm aware of that I do that but they're so easy to glance over but if the characters are in the living room, there it is to set your drinks on, hurt your shin on and have sex on in that one fic... multifunctional and more original than having each other on the dining room table. not that there is anything wrong with it, it's just nice to change it up

12. Talk about a tree, plant or flower that is quietly significant

My initial reflex was about cross my heart but in The Sea-Green Eyes Across the Stream there is a tree that gets mentioned and I think it's the only tree that is mentioned individually. It's about midway from the camp to the stream and it's the last proper spot you can see someone when you're across the stream and it's a spot Ginny paused often at the start when saying goodbye to here beloved mysterious green-eyed cave man. I like to think it's the only tree in the vicinity of the camp.

Fandom Problem #11,650:

Drarry and Harmony version of Harry strip him of his canon characteristics so much he becomes ooc. Same with Draco and Hermione, why do they seem eerily similar to Ginny?

The double standard with James has always driven me insane.

If you look at old Jily fics people wrote James obsessively asking Lily out as romantic (it's not canon btw, James Potter's big fan here) and at the same exact time they claimed that Ginny writing the poem made her an obssessive stalker. So many popular takes on Ginny this fandom has are drenched in mysogyny and not even the mysogyny of today, the mysogyny of 20 years ago. So many people in this fandom are still people who read the books for the first time around the time they were coming out and developed their loyalty to ships and characters in those years, and they refuse to change their mind about any shitty take they've ever had. So they constantly say insanely mysogynistic stuff and maybe have even the nerve to claim they hate Rowling for her disgusting takes on trans women, like they are any better. You are all just as shitty as she is.

As for fanfictions where Harry is shipped with other characters, the formula is always the same: the more Harry is in character the more the person he is being shipped with is just Ginny with another name. There's not a single piece of fanfiction about Harry that doesn't follow this rule.

But it's not just that, there are so many people who claim to hate hinny but then they just turn their ships into hinny. Of course this is true as I said for Harry-ships but it's also true for so many other ships that have nothing to do with Harry or Ginny.

Fanon Dramione is basically an hinny au. Of course dramione requires incorrect characterizations of Draco and Hermione so the are a billion different versions of dramione. But if you make an average, they are just a Harry who grew up rich and with his parents and that made me go through an asshole phase, and a Ginny who for some reasons couldn't play Quidditch so she developed more strictly her love for stories.

Or, and it pains me to say it, Jily. Jily, a ship I love with all of my being, has unfortunately a bunch of fans who steal things from canon hinny, give them to jily, and then claim they don't like hinny because it's just a copy of jily.

I do agree 100% that the more in character Harry is, the more that whoever he's shipped with is basically Ginny. Same for noncanon ships of Ginny. The more in character she is, the more the person she's shipped with is a rebadged Harry. That's why I stopped reading noncanon ships for Harry or Ginny. Why read that when I could just read Hinny (and also avoid the stupid bashing that HARMony fics usually have)?

Here's why.

1. The majority of Harry Potter fans are children.

I've had people call me disgusting and scum and an embarrassment to my disabled community. I've been suicide baited and have received death threats. All of this can be heavy enough stuff for an adult to deal with.

And then I think of how most of my 700+ elementary-aged students are huge Harry Potter fans. Because, you know, Harry Potter is a children's series. And they also have access to the internet and social media like TikTok and YouTube.

Now imagine the stuff that's been said to me being said to a kid. Because Harry Potter's main audience are KIDS.

2. This black-and-white mentality isn't healthy.

Very few things in life are cut-and-dry good vs bad. And if you employ this kind of thinking in one area of your life, odds are you'll apply it to other areas too(more on that in a moment).

And people who go out of their way to harass people who like Harry Potter don't seem to particularly care about any context beyond "If you like Harry Potter in any way whatsoever you're scum".

It hasn't mattered when I've pointed out that I absolutely and unequivocally think Rowling's TERF views are awful and scummy and wrong. It hasn't mattered that I try my best to consume the content only in ways that won't monetarily support her, (which kids typically can't do, btw). It hasn't mattered that it's literally in my job description to keep up with children's media to procure content for my patrons as well as to be able to hold conversations with them.

3. Saying "You're not allowed to read this without being harassed" is no different from saying a book should be banned.

This is ironic, seeing as the people doing the harassing are also often up in arms about queerphobic and racist book bans (as they should be) while demanding book bans of their own.

Because in their all-or-nothing way of thinking, book bans are only bad when the "bad" people do it.

No. Book bans are always bad, no exceptions.

4 year old Harry: Ginny. Is my wife. I must go see her

James: Harry you know that was a play pretend wedding right?

Little Harry and Little Ginny have the play pretend wedding. They're serious about it for a while, but eventually forget and move on with other games.

As teens, they start dating. Eventually, they decide to get married.

However... The appropriate bureaucracy says they can't get married because they're somehow already married. Apparently, magic itself recognized the love they didn't understand yet.

James: ...Excuse me?

4 year old Harry: Ginny. Is my wife. I must go see her

James: Harry you know that was a play pretend wedding right?

4. Talk about jewellery (for Ginny)

Ah oh man. I don't have outspoken opinions about jewellery in general so don't expect too many specificities from me about what she wears but... she is a sporty girly. I think she doesn't wear much daily jewellery and when she does it's minimalistic or of high sentimental value (mainly things Harry has given her or came from her mother). Her basics are her wedding ring and a thin necklace with a pendant

I don't think she cares much about the monetary value of jewellery, but that it has meaning. I do think she likes to wear a full set that compliments her outfit when she goes to parties, especially fancy galas she'll make sure she has matching earrings, necklace and bracelets that go with her dress because she'll have the whole look

I do think she would wear Luna's quirky jewellery because if her friend made her something she will damn well wear it and she'd make sure to wear them when hanging out with Luna so she'd feel appreciated and if you laugh at her funky jewellery, you're going to have a problem
