Hello everyone, I thought it was about time I wrote a blog to let you know whats happening in the world of My Furniture Box.

Frenchic Outside – Frenchic have launched a lovely range of paint colours for outdoor use, the great thing with this paint is that it doesnt need any sealing! Cant wait to get my hands on and I will be ordering Asap so please get in touch if want anything added to the order.

Interiors – we have been working hard and making good progress with the display areas in the warehouse. We have 3 rebel walls displays up, the perimeter is now complete. The next stage is making some stairs to my new office then we will be installing our own bespoke kitchen and then offering a full design service from supplying paint for diy or making and fitting kitchens. The kitchens will be unique and vintage so in keeping with the whole upcycle project and brand.

Workshops – we will soon be announcing another 2 day upcycle course with claire and myself but in the meantime you can still book the saturday painting classes or the wednesday upholstery ones.

Upcycle Academy- well this is booming beyond all expectations. We now have over 600 upcyclers registered on our courses! Its still currently only £39 to join and youll have lifetime access to every course we ever make. Over the coming weeks im launching a course to help existing small upcycle businesses or start ups to get going! This will all be added to the upcycle academy and its called “upcycle your business”. To complement this im currently producing a book called “why upcycle”? Im putting together loads of upcycle project images so if youd like to get involved then join our fast growing facebook group = upcycle academy forum

New Vendors – we have already welcomed the talented Diane at Dappled Dandy and we are excited to welcome “Upcycled Me” on the 1st April and no its not an early fools. If you are interested in renting space then get in touch asap as we are running out now.

Frenchic to appear in the new TV game show The Home Game

If you haven’t yet seen the Home Game, it’s a game show hosted by Linda Barker on ITV, one of the Frenchic stockists is to appear on the next episode on ITV. If you didnt already know as well as running My Furniture Box I also set up Furniture Upcycle Academy where all the stuff we teach at the workshops is put together in an easy to follow online course.

To help develop this academy I am writing a book on upcycling with examples and helpful tips.

REBEL WALLS – Wall Murals & Bespoke Wallpaper

As My Furniture Box is developing, we are getting more and more commission work and design so to complement this and the new kitchen displays we are launcing as a stockist and retailer for the very excellent Rebel Walls, this basically means we can supply any wallpaper design from exciting wall murals to photographs and specific designs. As a designer, desigb is my number one passion the creativity with this alongside the Frenchic products is ridiculously exciting for me. I cant wait to get working on some displays.

OK, so some big news for our customers at my Furniture Box.

Firstly all evening painting workshops are now finished, we won’t be running anymore until possibly the spring when the weather starts to warm up or we get a woodburner fitted!

BUT GOOD NEWS ( for most of you ) We have moved our beginners workshop to Saturdays, it will run from 11am to 2pm. It will be charged at £49 and those attending will have £49 to spend instore on Frenchic or furniture. This is about the average spend at workshops!

MORE GOOD NEWS ( for everyone ) We will also run a FREE workshop on Saturday for those of of you that have completed the beginners course or advanced painters who don’t need my help. This will run from 12noon until 3pm. As usual, we only ask that you use Frenchic products and materials and provide your own brushes etc.

The Painters Club & Late Night Opening

I am very excited as I know lot’s of you are interested in this.

We now have a Painters Club available, a lower cost way for you all to bring your furniture to paint. I’m really excited, I think it’s going to be popular, I have spoken in depth to many of you about this and have picked what I think is the best day and time for everyone.

I know it won’t be perfect for everyone but if it’s busy then I’m happy to extend this out to more days

There are a extra’s thrown in and it means we’ll be open late at least one evening per week which I know will also be good for those that struggle to make the day appointments

EXCITING NEWS… The first painting workshop is on the calendar

I can’t believe how many people have expressed interest in the workshops, I thought it might be popular but it’s really generated a lot of buzz.

So, below is a link about the workshop and you can book onto this if you want, but you will need to be quick because it’s just one evening with only 5 places to fill.

Now, I have tried to set this up so that it works for those who have asked and that have given me such awesome feedback and ideas. Please note the following bullet points

You don’t have to buy a piece of furniture, you can just bring your own or borrow something from us. You can buy too if you wish.

You’ll get a £20 voucher to spend on furniture

You’ll get a starter kit with everything you need to start painting and you will have plenty of paint to take home with you after. The kit includes a 750ml can of Frenchic Lazy Range Paint and this alone retails at £19.

There will be tea, coffee and homemade organic biscuits!

This is the first course of many to be booked, there will be more advanced ones and shorter ones set at various prices and structures and on different days. This is, I feel, is a good start and, if you do have experience and still wish to book this workshop then that’s fine too, it makes our job a little easier.

There seems to still be a bit of a stigma about buying used furniture.

I blame the second hand shops. They are often filled to the brim with junk and dodgy looking stained mattresses, don’t get me wrong here, I am absolutely not being a snob about this but you don’t get this in the second hand car market. If you go into the CarShop, it all feels new, the sales people are in smart wear and the cars are immaculate.

“I want to be the CARSHOP of the used furniture market” This is my vision; a showroom stocked with lovely painted ready to go furniture mixed with untouched vintage goods, interesting items and a few antiques. I want people to come in and browse for as long as they want, not to feel awkward and for everything to be clean and priced up. Now our showroom as it is will never be immaculate because it’s very much a workshop first but we will always work hard to keep up the standards and later, we will open a retail only site.

Buying used furniture should be enjoyable and exciting, just like buying a car is, buying second-hand is the recycling of the design world. Second-hand pieces don’t use any more materials, they don’t need more energy and they reduce the amount of waste and pollution because they don’t require any additional packaging. On top of these ethical reasons, antiques and previously used pieces have that great sense of story and character.

You can buy a chipboard wardrobe from Ikea or Argos and it’s going to cost a lot more than an older UK made solid wood one from a shop like My Furniture Box. You can also do a lot to change the appearance, there are some incredible chalk paint for furniture available today and you can have a lot of fun in the process. My Furniture Box offer a painting service for all our furniture, we can paint any piece any colour or you might want to attend one of our workshops to learn how to do it yourself.

Pop in even if you’re not looking It’s worth popping in to build up your repertoire. Even if you’re not looking to purchase anything right now, it can be inspiring to just have a good look about. If you come across something you particularly like, it might be worth snapping it up, even if you weren’t planning on buying anything. Finds can be rare, and you’ll know if it’s special enough.

​This table was painted with autentico chalk paint, an environmentally sound and effective water based paint.

We used a lovely colour called Belgium stone and then finished with clear wax and a dark patina. 

It’s an extremely heavy beech wood table with chunky legs, very sturdy.

1800mm x 980mm

You can view the table any day Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm at our workshop showroom.
