me: ok i need to focus on this trig problem ! :)
my adhd:
Me: *trying to do tasks* ok you gotta start doing shit
2 minutes later
Me: *dancing* đśstart doing shitđś
I'm sick of other people with adhd saying that at least they don't use their adhd as an "excuse"
Or that adhd is "nothing" and "basically everyone has it"
I'm sick of other people with adhd making it harder for people to respect the struggles of having adhd
It's the reason I can't talk about my issues without making it a joke or letting neurotypicals relate like it's the same thing
It's really not
Adhd makes my life a lot harder than it is and im tired of people with my same neurodivergence making it harder
A reminder to teachers:
Not giving clear instructions is ableist!
Teachers: pls give ppl written instructions thank u

My face when I take an ADHD test and it tells me I have it even though I am literally already diagnosed and medicicated for it: o:
K cool i thought adderall would *increase concentrate* not *increase depress, anxious, and everything bad*
Can someone help me stop making bad decisions for attention?

The more I learn about this stuff the more infuriating it is how able bodied neurotypicals think people shouldnât have 'too many' diagnoses because itâs somehow 'too unlikely' as if each disorder was a separate dice roll.
Like in their heads they go "well Condition 1 is experienced by 1% of the population, Condition 2 is experienced by 0.5% of the population, and Condition 3 is experienced by 1.6% of the population, so that means a person has only a 0.00008% chance of having all three which is obviously too ridiculous to be possible"
And they actually believe thatâs how it works in real life.
Also a lot of conditions are linked. I have a few really rare ones. My physical therapist suspects I have a condition that is actually linked to all my others from ADHD to CRPS. I don't know for sure if she's right that I have this syndrome, but either way that just goes to show it's not weird or inexplicable that a person has several [rare] conditions. The body is complex.
also, people donât understand that ocd, adhd, and touretteâs typically all come together. itâs called the tic disorder triad, and a lot of people who have one, also have symptoms, or have been diagnosed with the other two. itâs a full time struggle.
Huh, I actually didnât know about that triad.
Theyâve also done studies that link fibromyalgia to ADHD. Something like 50% of âwomenâ (AFAB people) with fibro have ADHD symptoms that were missed in childhood.
Having ADHD really is just buy 1 get 12 free huh
I had an intense moment of joy the first time I took Concerta and was pain free for the first time in a decade. I hope they study it more so they can stop prescribing things that only work for 1 in 10 people.
Wait. A stimulant relieved your fibro pain? I would never have guessed that was POSSIBLE
It did! Iâm going on three months completely pain free and zero side effects unlike Cymbalta, gabapentin, and Lyrica.
Cannot wrap my mind around how that works, but thatâs awesome!
I think that a lot of able-bodied NT folks get hung up on the idea that an illness is One Distinct Thing. Like, if youâve got the flu you have one identifiable thing, caused by one identifiable virus, the flu virus. Itâs like in their understanding, an illness is one box, another illness is a different box, so if you say you have multiple conditions they imagine you having a stack of boxes and start thinking it canât possibly make sense that you got all of those things at the same time!
What they donât realise is that comorbid conditions are not a box - they are a clown car. A clown car, moreover, driven by an asshole. When it empties itself onto your unsuspecting driveway none of the occupants will admit to being invited by anyone else there, youâre trying desperately to stop them having a rave in your front room and nobody else in the street will believe that it really, really isnât you making the godawful racket at 3am. And then when you finally beg for help to get the rabble under control, some perky jogger will tell you that you can sort them all out if you try harder, have a positive attitude and do yoga.Â
The clown car is real.Â
I fully endorse the clown car metaphor.
