Pirates of the Caribbean Dead men tell no tales: Spotlight and rating
* The European movie title doesn’t make sense; a more adequate title would have included either the word Trident or the word reunion.
* Said reunion made the audience at my screening clap excitedly.
* Carina Smyth and Captain Salazar are very compelling, well-written, perfectly cast characters.
* Paul McCartney’s Cameo gets more screen time than Keira Knightley’s. Sir Paul in fact, gets “more” spoken lines.
* Sir Paul McCartney’s is believable as a pirate, he really fits his small role.
* The opening sequence is amazing. Don’t miss it if you are an Orlando Bloom fan.
* Well-directed action scenes. The guillotine sequence, the ghost shark sequence and the final battle are my favorite action scenes of any adventure film I have seen this year.
* It’s not necessary to watch the previous films to understand this one. I never watched the previous films, yet I understood perfectly what was going on.
* Kaya Scodelario best role to date. Her acting is becoming better and better.
* Carina’s scientific expertise is used to bring double-intent sexual puns.
* Visuals, art direction, and music have Academy Award quality.
* Critics at Rotten tomatoes say that they have seen movies like this one before, but the casual movie goer will find the action scenes refreshing and entertaining.
* No cliffhanger, the ending wrap ups the lose ends. (But I’m already screaming for a sequel) Note: I didn’t see the after credits scenes which I heard it’s a cliffhanger.
* The actor who played young Henry deserves more credit.
* Brenton Thwaites got a role that is difficult to describe in few words. Carina is smart and brave, Salazar is rageful Barbossa is conniving, Sparrow is a clown, but what is Henry about? Perseverance or optimism? Naïveté or cheerfulness? He brings a welcome balance to Jack Sparrow’s madness and has great chemistry with the cast, but it’s the only character I thought was underdeveloped.
* The guillotine sequence and the shark sequences have a real sense of urgency that kept me at the edge of my seat. The audience at my theater were actually screaming.
* Don’t believe anyone who tells you that Javier Bardem doesn’t get enough screen time. Although this is Johnny Depp show most of the secondary characters including Captain Salazar get enough time to shine and carry on the story line and plot.
* Orlando Blooms Cameo gets more screen time than Keira Knightley’s.
* I loved the battle at the divided sea.
* I love the secret father storyline.
* There’s a poignant goodbye near the end of the film. Great acting in this sequence. I wish that scene had been longer.
* Carina represents the kind of female character I want to see in movies. She’s badass and tenacious, but she’s not trying to become a man. She is smarter than her adventure companions but unlike this year Belle, she never came across as condescending or feminazi when she calls her pirate companion stupid,
*Jack is funnier when he isn’t trying to be funny. Great acting from Johnny Depp.
* Great job from writers and directors and actors in giving compelling back stories to the new characters. Please make them return to the sequels!
* Young jack sparrow sequences are well worth the ticket entrance.
* Is it really that long? Not in my opinion. I never got bored, it never feels long because the pace is good and the actions scenes flow really well.
* I wasn’t a fan of the franchise, but thanks to the visual flair of the directors now I need to watch the previous film. If there’s a sequel these directors need to return as you can feel how they really cared for the characters and the world building and they made this world so theirs
* The visuals and sound effects deserve to be seen on a theater, it won’t be the same watching in your home.
* The movie has already great international box office numbers.
