*Requested: Y/N likes Newt but he doesn’t pay much attention to her. In order to get his attention, she fools around with other Gladers until she confesses her feelings for Newt.*

You ran your hand up and down the Builder’s arm and smiled at him. You couldn’t remember his name but that was unimportant. You laughed at whatever he said as loud as you could, and you saw Newt turn his head out of the corner of your eye. Success. You leaned into the Builder even further and fluttered your lashes before taking his hand and walking towards the Deadheads. You knew Newt’s eyes hadn’t left you for a moment.

You expected Newt to say something or passionately grab you and kiss you and tell you he’s loved you since the first day he laid his eyes on you but he didn’t do any of that. You weren’t surprised.

You finished with the Builder and went back to do whatever work you had been doing earlier, feeling alright but just not content. Newt was the only one you actually like, and it was just upsetting that he never paid any real attention to you. What was a girl supposed to do?

That night, all the Gladers gathered around a small fire to just hang out. It wasn’t every night that you guys had a gathering like this and it was nice to see all the familiar faces just relaxing. And you started to count the Gladers you had fooled around with to try to get Newt’s attention. And all of a sudden you felt disgusted and sick of yourself. So you decided to take a walk. You thought maybe if you cleared your mind and gave yourself a pep talk, then Newt wouldn’t matter anymore and your feelings would go away and you could move on. 

Big chance of that happening, right?

So you walked over to the Deadheads, alone this time, and decided to sit down and have a small talk with yourself.

“Why do you care so much? There are so many other boys,” you said to yourself and put your chin in your hands. You were right. There are so many other boys. But then the other part of you is saying Newt Newt Newt.

“You have to tell him. It’s the only way to end this once and for all,” you said and then laughed like a crazy person. Because you are a crazy person.

There was no way you were going to tell Newt that you’re madly in love with him. No way, no way.

You watched as Newt talked to Alby about whatever important business it was that they always needed to talk about. You were getting antsy until a random Glader approached you. You instantly went into flirting mode and were chatting him up. You glanced over at Newt and noticed him watching, and continued to get your charm on. Then you saw him briskly walking over and got all nervous. Not in a butterfly love sort of nervous, but he-might-yell-at-you nervous.

“Y/N, could I have a word?” He asked and you just smiled sweetly.

“Sorry Newt, maybe in a few minutes once I’m done talking to my good friend?” You said and looked him straight in the eye.

“You don’t even know his name,” Newt snapped and you felt the nervousness bubble up into rage.

“Okay, that’s it! I’m not going to sit here and keep my mouth shut anymore! I’m in love with you, you shuckhead! And if you don’t like it, fine, but I am not going to pretend like you’re so superior to me when I am just as much a human being as you are!” You let the panting of your breath take all of your focus so that you could ignore all the eyes in the Glade staring at you, including the two beautiful ones lodged in Newt’s head.

“Oh,” he said and you wanted to scream. Had you really just confessed your love for him in front of everyone just so he could say ‘oh’?

“Okay,” you said calmly and started to walk away with no intention of speaking to or looking at anyone. No one moved as the dirt and rocks made small crunching sounds under your feet.

“Y/N, stop walking,” Newt called from the spot he stood and you ignored him.

“Y/N, I’m serious,” he said and you wanted to spin around and tell him he’s full of klunk and that he doesn’t deserve attention from you and how dare he order you around in a terrible situation like this and-

“I love you,” he called and you stopped walking. You didn’t turn around, just stood there, waiting for some sort of big yell of surprise that it was actually all a prank and he actually hates you and now he’s going to make you stand in the Maze when the Grievers come out.

But everyone stayed silent. So you turned on your heel and you just looked at him. He was the crazy one now. How could he possibly love you? And how bad is he at showing his love?

“Seriously?” You asked and he nodded frantically.

“Oh,” you said with a smile tugging at the left side of your mouth as he sprinted at you full speed and hugged you with so much force you didn’t think he could possibly possess it.
