This entire season felt like old-school Degrassi. It was so refreshing and so, so great.

I think they gave Michael Jacobs near complete creative control as part of the deal they presented to him and began to really regret it once they realized what he was trying to do with it, tbh. That combined with a very vocal cast that definitely evolved past the whole purity ring era — Disney found itself with a handful of “issues” they couldn’t solve.

So I recently watched a video by a young actress who spoke about how shady Disney channel can be through her experience with them that was so awful she literally hasn’t acted since and what I learnt is: Apparently Disney signs their talent to a five year contract to secure them to their projects for as long as possible. So despite the cancellation Row, Sab, Peyton and Corey are still in their contracts. This explains a lot about why a lot of Disney stars go to great lengths to ‘break’ their images to get out of their contracts and what not. It also explains why Amir chose to be semi-regular. This is so upsetting because even with the cancellation they’re still contractedly obligated to the company so it means they can’t be done with Disney despite how dirty the network has treated them. Fuck Disney. Fuck them for cancelling their only show that actually means something and fuck them for essentially trapping the stars despite how much dirt they paid them.

GMW started production in early 2013 though, so if contracts really are 5 years, then at least they’d be ending in a year

So what I’m reading here is: “bother the hell out of Netflix and hope the kids get out of their contracts and want to do a season four in about a year.”

That really doesn’t have to be what happens. Netflix has absorbed several shows in the past — Lovesick, Degrassi, The Fall, The Killing — and I imagine they have to absorb all of the network contracts the cast members agreed to. Disney contracts are perhaps more similar to Old Hollywood production company contracts of yesteryear, but they are still contracts that can be bought out. I don’t get how this is any different.

just because gmw ended doesn’t mean the casts contract with disney ended. even if netflix did want to take the show on, disney might not let the cast go

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE EMAILS OF FREEFORM, HULU, AMAZON PRIME, YAHOO, ETC…

Hulu and freeform are dead ends. Disney owns them. Talk to Netflix guys.

Disney doesn’t completely own Hulu but has a majority share (30%, on par with 21st Century Fox and Comcast/NBC Universal), so please keep that in mind if you wish to contact them!
