ai-less browsers
sooo lots of people are looking for alternatives now that mozilla announced firefox is going to intregrate ai so here are some options
vi mucha gente mal por lo de que firefox se va a llenar de ia también así que les traigo alternativas !!!
1. Vivaldi:
this is the one i personally use and i loved it. i was a previously opera user and had to move when they started putting some crypto shit, and it didn't disappoint. it's pretty customizable, it can be as minimal or complete as you want it, it comes with ad block, tracker blocks and proton vpn (tho you can easily take it off). openly spoke about ai not being needed everywhere and very privacy friendly. they're still chromium based so you can use any extension that works on chrome
2. Waterfox
open source fork for firefox for those who want to keep using firefox extensions and functionalities. you can look around the code and modify it even if you're tech savvy. they also stated having no intention of including ai in the browser and are very privacy focused.
3. Hellium
another chromium fork, open source and pretty new. it's still in beta but it has gained attention for being minimalistic and private. it's very light and only includes an adblock, also focused on being as free of bloat as possible. it still doesn't have an android ver and tho it seems promising we can't be sure they wont include ai in the future, but it's worth to give it a try!!
i think everyone should program at least once just so you realise just how fucking stupid computers are. because theyre so fucking stupid. a computer wants to be told what to do and exactly that and if you make one typo or forget one detail it starts crying uncontrollably
AffinityOnLinux
=> https://github.com/seapear/AffinityOnLinux/
Affinity Studio, which is new and free, already works on linux! been using Affinity Designer + Photo for many years. they're great, so Studio might be worth looking into.
iPad version coming soon too
(some paid AI Canva features don't work, i think, but idk/idc, because i don't use those)
i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet
Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games
Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones
Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy
ZenGM - simulate sports
Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi
IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)
Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface
The Cafe & Diner - mystery game
The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game
Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions
Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game
Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game
Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.
It really is sad how it's a dying art form.
While it costs someone, somewhere money, it doesn't have to cost you much of anything. Truly browser-based games (so, no shared high score list, for example) can be hosted in a variety of free services like GitHub Pages, glitch.com , neocities, or Netlify . A few of these can even store a bit of data on the server so you can have that shared high score list or whatever.
Adding things like your own domain name would add cost, and if a page gets popular enough then you might exhaust the free tiers of these sites, but it's still so viable as a medium.
We lament the death of Flash, but nothing would stop us from building new tools on top of browsers' more-advanced capabilities. In a lot of ways it's probably already easier than it was back in the heyday, between powerful libraries and good documentation like MDN.
Let's keep these circulating!

In the wake of the TikTok ban and revival as a mouthpiece for fascist propaganda, as well as the downfall of Twitter and Facebook/Facebook-owned platforms to the same evils, I think now is a better time than ever to say LEARN HTML!!! FREE YOURSELVES FROM THE SHACKLES OF MAJOR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS AND EMBRACE THE INDIE WEB!!!
You can host a website on Neocities for free as long as it's under 1GB (which is a LOT more than it sounds like let me tell you) but if that's not enough you can get 50GB of space (and a variety of other perks) for only $5 a month.
Create and surf awesome websites for free.
And if you can't/don't want to pay for the extra space, sites like File Garden and Catbox let you host files for free that you can easily link into NeoCities pages (I do this to host videos on mine!) (It also lets you share files NeoCities wouldn't let you upload for free anyways, this is how I upload the .zip files for my 3DS themes on my site.)
Host your files with decency.
The cutest free file host you've ever seen
Don't know how to write HTML/CSS? No problem. W3schools is an invaluable resource with free lessons on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and a whole slew of other programming languages, both for web development and otherwise.
W3Schools offers free online tutorials, references and exercises in all the major languages of the web. Covering popular subjects like HTML,
Want a more traditional social media experience? SpaceHey is a platform that mimics the experience of 2000s MySpace
SpaceHey is a retro social network focused on privacy and customizability. It's a friendly place to have fun, meet friends, and be creative.
Struggling to find independent web pages that cater to your interests via major search engines? I've got you covered. Marginalia and Wiby are search engines that specifically prioritize non-commercial content. Marginalia also has filters that let you search for more specific categories of website, like wikis, blogs, academia, forums, and vintage sites.
Marginalia Search is a small independent do-it-yourself search engine for surprising but content-rich websites that never ask you to accept
Wiby is a search engine for older style pages, lightweight and based on a subject of interest. Building a web more reminiscent of the early
Maybe you wanna log off the modern internet landscape altogether and step back into the pre-social media web altogether, well, Protoweb lets you do just that. It's a proxy service for older browsers (or really just any browser that supports HTTP, but that's mostly old browsers now anyways) that lets you visit restored snapshots of vintage websites.
With ProtoWeb, you can browse the web like it's 1995!
Protoweb has a lot of Geocities content archived, but if you're interested in that you can find even more old Geocities sites over on the Geocities Gallery
A restored visual gallery of the archived Geocities sites
And really this is just general tip-of-the-iceberg stuff. If you dig a little deeper you can find loads more interesting stuff out there. The internet doesn't have to be a miserable place full of nothing but doomposting and targeted ads. The first step to making it less miserable is for YOU, yes YOU, to quit spending all your time on it looking at the handful of miserable websites big tech wants you to spend all your time on.
Here are some user sites I've really gotten a lot out of when I started coding mine!
Petrapixel
Sadgrl
REPTH
The Frugal Gamer
→ Web Building Resources
Codepen.io - a sandbox where you can test your html/css/java live
AnimatiSS - a collection of css animations you can copy/paste
Transparent Textures - exactly what it says on the tin!
CSS Grid Layout Guide - I studied this. So useful.
And then not to toot my own horn but here are my two-ish sites!
→ Mobile Friendly
I'm Listening - a music review project blog I share with my family (eye friendly)
→ Desktop Only
Shadow of Valtus - An entirely self-indulgent eyestrain flashback personal blog (not eye friendly)
The Vault - A subsection of SoV that's just D&D resources (eye friendly)
please learn how to code
like, if you're bored today, and not doing anything,
learn a little bit of coding please
hi hi hello PLEASE DON'T JUST REBLOG THIS FOR LATER
I know how much you love reblogging posts and then never looking at them ever again. I get it, I really do. but PLEASE
just open one of these links and explore a bit if you're interested
Scratch - great coding program for learning the basics, but so good you can make a video game with it
Codecademy - learn any coding language with lessons
Neocities - literally make a website
it's all free
May i also add: codepen.io
It's free, it's not a guided learning platform, it's just a cool way to practice
Look at open-source software.

hi j!!! I really love your blog, thanks for making theses amazing materials! do you think you can make any webcore (especially Windows related) dividers? if not, it's okay! I really appreciate anyways!!!! 💕💞💕💞💕💞
hello - thank so much! I am so happy you’re enjoying them!! And sure, I hope you like these (and that they are sort of what you were looking for?)
I didn’t see anything on canva I liked, so I ended up making these from scratch in procreate - using Windows 95 for reference. 💖 (I thought if you wanted to use them for a Masterlist, then Start one could be for navigation and then the Notepad for fics? And then a divider to break things up.) But they could all be dividers, too!!!
[Free] Masterlist Headers & Dividers!
Please like or reblog if you use 💕

Hey there! As social media becomes more and more inhospitible for the local user, I wanted to post some useful/fun links to just about anything I can think of! Enjoy! Also, if you'd like an invite to the P!rated Games discord, lmk! ^_^
If this post is useful to you PLEASE consider tossing some money my way? I am so freaking poor, kthnx.
I AM CURRENTLY STILL UPDATING THIS POST AND I WILL REBLOG IT WHEN I ADD TO IT! Feel free to comment things I've missed, I'm sure there's way more than this came from!
***MAJOR EDIT: I HAVE MOVED THESE LINKS***
These links have been moved to my website on Neocities. This way, I can more easily add and update this list (it's over 100 links long!) AS WELL AS add more detailed descriptions. Funnily enough, tumblr doesn't really like it when you try to edit an 100 link long blog post.
Updated as of April 2024 :D
Website is still in progress, don't mind the construction.
Links included are web centric (URL, generators, and archive collections), Knowledge Bases (like Libgen and The Eye, as well as open source projects from art museums), Art Tools (Krita and different tools), Music Tools and Discovery (radio sites and music searches based on what you already like), and fun stuff (like Gifypet and Flashpoint!) Below the Read More is images of all the links and their descriptions mentioned on my site!
