AFIRE *

MAYBE  HE  KNOWS  TOO  LITTLE  AND  EXPERIENCED  TOO  MUCH  NOT  TO  TREAT  ANY  FORM  OF  ALLEGIANCE  WITH  GREAT  CONSIDERATION.     &     in  a  world  where  even  the  moon  is  fickle  with  her  affections,  unable  to  overcome  the  natural  force     &     interplay  with  the  sun,  it  makes  him  question  whether  or  not  it  is  possible  for  something  fundamental  to  exist  like  a  person  who  is  always  noble,  always  true     &     who  never  compromises.  perhaps  those  are  expectations  too  great  even  for  the  gods  to  comply  and  live  for.     (  or  maybe  each  highly  depends  on  the  point  of  view.  )

TAKING  HER  WORDS  IN  STRIDE  IVAR  HUMORS  THE  THOUGHT  ABOUT  CONDITIONAL  LOYALTY  AS  WELL  AS  FRIENDSHIPS  WHICH  FLARE  UP  FIRST,  BECOME  GLIMMERING  COAL  UNTIL  IT  ALL  COOLS  DOWN.     &     upon  deliberately  raised  eyebrows  in  response  to  her  fundamental  belief,  firm  in  its  expression,  his  lips  curl  into  a  lopsided  grin.     ‘     would  it  not  be  nice  to  have  some  of  each:  loyalty,  understanding  and  no  conditions  ?  but  i  suspect  it’s  a  similar  challenge  like  for  rulers  to  decide  whether  they  want  to  reign  with  love  or  with  fear.     ’     then,  ivar  draws  himself  up  to  full  height,  fingers  curling  around  the  handle  of  his  crutch  as  his  gaze  settles  on  her.     ‘     who  am  i  to  argue  your  perfectly  reasonable  suggestion  ?     ’     he  waves  casually,  carefully,  with  the  rose  in  his  other  hand.  a  simple  gesture  that  he  will  follow  her  lead.     ‘     after  you,  your  grace.     ’

SHE  DOES  NOT LEAD,   but  instead  chooses  to  walk beside  him  as an  equal  through  a   garden  festooned  by garlands  of  flowers,   flowers  that  exist  without  a  reason   to,  that  twist in  rarely  any  straightforward  fashion,  that   intertwine  in  a   pattern  that  obscures beginning  from   end.  isn’t  that  what  her  father  wanted  of  her  ?  shed  the  snake  to reveal  a  vine,  a  stem  that   grows  ever  stronger,   ever  longer,  competing  with  the  passage of  time,   a name  shadowed  by  the  height  of  his  ambitions, a  name  burnished (   almost  erased   )   to  produce one  title  in   gold  :  QUEEN.    

IT WAS AN ACHE  that  would  perhaps  always  be  a  part  of  him  ,  a  reminder  of  the  calamity  that  had  struck  him  on  that  rain-soaked  night  ;  honour  ,  blood   &   the  sizzling  burn of  saltwater  against  his  wound  ,  a  blur  of  memories  crashing  against  his skull  ,   a remorseless  assault  of  waves  ,   one  chasing  the  other  ,   shouts  ,   thunder   &  commands  all flooding  ,   racing  ,  drowning  him  in  a  commotion  that  converges  into  a  single  voice  all  too   regrettably   familiar   ;   the  flail  of  arms  instead  of  the  cut  of  lightening   ,   the  stench  of  rum  on  every  syllable  in  place  of  the  biting  breeze  .   he  was  a  pain  that  overshadowed  the dull  throb  in  his  torso  ,   and  for  every  story  the  pirate  related  ,   there  were  three  consecutive  headaches   .
