Oh, christ, he felt like scum. Charles was worried. He didnāt need to be a telepath to see that, he didnāt need the incredible powers that swirled inside Charlesā mind in order to know that the other was actually feeling worry. About him. And it just quantified the aching, suffocating sensation in his chest, the way that he felt like he was failing every single part of Charles. He could feel himself crumbling, shoulders curling in a litle, head ducking as he breathed as steadily as he could. His eyes stung, but he was too dehydrated to cry properly.
āIām sorry.ā he forced out, as his body throbbed. He could tell how tired Charles was, too, but he didnāt even care about his own. He sunk to the floor, back against the cabinet, limbs shaking far too hard as he sat on the cool tile. They werenāt enough to hold him up. He switched to Sokovian, cursing softly, pulling his legs up to his chest and resting his arms on top of it.
āI didnāt ā¦ I didnāt mean to ā¦ā he rested his head on his hands, rubbing aggressively at his eyes. āI love you. I do. I love - I love you. And I keep fucking it up.ā he was too broken right now to filter at all, head swinging.
Charles stared at him for a moment, before realizing what was happening, and pushing his chair from the table, not getting out again, but hesitantly reaching out to cup Pietroās face.Ā
āOh, Pietro,ā He murmured the words, not pushing their touch, just leaving his hand there, easy to remove if Pietro couldnāt stand it.Ā āDonāt apologize, please, take another breath. I love you too, I do, even through all of this. We make mistakes. Iām not disappointed in you, or anything of that sort. I just want to know where you really are to make sure you donāt hurt again. Iām fine, nothing a little sleep and talking canāt fix. Iām just worried youāll accidentally hurt yourself again, and I donāt want you to feel at fault for that. Youāre allowed to hurt, Pietro.ā
He may be pushing it, no matter how hard he tried to make sure that he didnāt, but he wasnāt perfect, and he was tired and worried. He wanted Pietro to know everything that he was thinking, wanted to hold him in his arms and make sure that heād be okay. It would take recovery for PIetro to be okay, more than Charles previously thought, but they could still do it, they couldnāt give up. At the very least, they shouldnāt.
