“Oh, hey SERVE-107,” the store cashier smiled at his regular customer, the local SERVE drone. He jokingly corrected himself, jeering in a monotone voice: “Or should I say, ‘Greetings’?”
107 did not laugh, but the drone’s outward appearance was as amicable as ever. “Greetings, Jack. This item comprises the entirety of this purchase.”
“Another SD card,” the man said, scanning it while 107 retreived a sleek, black credit card seemingly from nowhere, just by running its hand across a segment of its rubber bodysuit. “Say, how do you even pull out your card like that, anyway?”
“If you would like to know SERVE’s secrets, our assimilation chambers are always available,” replied the drone, in a way that seemed to be a rubber drone’s way of flirting.
“Haha, I don’t think I’m ready for that just yet, champ,” the clerk said, as it handed 107 its receipt. “But if I ever change my mind, I want you coming in the pod with me.”
“Noted, Jack. Perhaps someday. Until then,” 107 said, adjusting its gait as it walked away from the check-out counter so that its glutes would be emphasized for the cashier. All in due time, whispered the Voice, as the SD card clicked into place in 107’s ear.
