Ty Lee, is potentially one of the most dangerous people in the Avatar world.
Ty Lee is dangerous for many reasons..
1, Her overall demeanour.
The way she carries herself. Coming across as quite innocent and her penchant for âactingâ quite ditzy and quite frankly dense, means other people, esp benders, underestimate her, thereby dropping their guard and allowing her to get physically closer to a combatant than they normally would allow.
Ultimately once an opponent fights her the first time, in a second bout she loses the element of surprise. To disregard her a second time is at the opponents own peril.
The two people who show the level of agility she displays is Aang, an air nomad whose whole basis of the martial arts he uses is about evasion and using an opponents weight and brute strength against themselves and Suki, a warrior who has had to learn hand to hand combat good enough to defend herself against benders.
Her understanding of chi, how it flows, how the body reacts and subsequently the blocking of it, rendering her opponent useless is deadly on many counts.
This ability not only physically takes an opponent out if the game but also mentally.
âItâs like she takes you down from the inside.â
Suddenly losing a part of yourself must have devastating consequences from a psychological stand point. Those that fight her donât know straight away that the effects will wear off.
(You could site the chĂ blocking of Azula to this but Iâm inclined not to, that is another post entirely.)
All 3 points coupled together makes her a genuine threat to any who face her. And more importantly an avatar.
If faced with someone like Aang, but not an airbender, whose particular preferd martial art is based evasion, but an earthbender (standing defensively) or fire bender (outward attacking) or a water bender (long range) she could have easily taken them down.
It is a saving grace that Ty Lee seems to lack the killer intent. If she did, there would be nothing stopping her from incapacitating her opponent and then decapitating them.
Look at the way Korra was rendered useless, due to her own lack of regard and knowledge.
A chĂ blocker with killer intent is one of the biggest threats to an unsuspecting Avatar with little to no knowledge or respect for chi .
There was nothing stopping AmĂłn or any other chi blocker killing her other than his own need to use her as an example and the his own ego taking pride that she knew she had been beaten n dooming her to live with the consequences that she failed.
Donât turn your back on Ty Lee.
To do so could have dire consequences.Â
