Muncie Open Screen

Hey all, we're going to go on a bit of a hiatus again. Due to a lack of submissions and the fact our host will be leaving town for the next few months, we can't really dedicate the time needed to continue this.

That said, we are leaving submissions open as we do hope to return in the late summer or fall. Please continue to spread the word and we'll hope to see you all again soon.

Thanks again to everyone that submitted and came out last night! We hope to see you all again next month!

This month's Open Screen will take place at 6PM and run until 7PM.

Normally we will meet at 5:15pm, but there's another thing happening, so we were bumped up to 6pm.

WE WILL BE BACK IN MARCH! I swear... I guess. Please continue to send us short films and spread the word. After this we should be able to keep a more regular schedule.

Send us whatever you got! We want to show your stuff on a giant screen in a beautiful venue for a few people.

Due to the holidays and the extensive preparations needed for the Muncie Civic Theatre's production of Peter Pan, we're going to have to postpone our next open screen until February.

On the bright side, that gives you an additional month to prepare and submit your short films!

Sorry folks, an emergency came up that's forced us to cancel this week's Open Screen. We'll be back in January to show this and next month's submissions.

Director Chris Kosinski will be presenting his documentary about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in D.C. on his website for free tomorrow in honor of Veteran's Day. Read the synopsis below and then click the link above to watch.

Pumpkin Seeds by Jeff Spot, about a telekinetic pumpkin.

Midwest of Eden by Jill Hackney, about a hitchhiker... or James Dean.. or a carwash... or something...

Overdub by Jeanette Castillo, which takes a look at session musicians and how digital technology changed their work.

We've only got a week and a half left (I'm not doing that math) until the next Muncie Open Screen and we still have plenty of space for submissions!

Submit whatever videos you've got. We don't care what they are, just that you made it. We prefer videos around 10 minutes, but depending on how many submissions we get there's always the possibility we can play longer ones.

The AMC Showplace 7 in Muncie is among the last few theaters in the country screening new, mainstream films on 35mm. AMC has no plans to convert any of the Showplace 7's theaters to digital and plans to close it down once the major studios stop releasing new prints.

That time is evidently near.

Only three of the seven films playing this weekend are current releases. The others--Alien, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Jerry McGuire, and Men In Black III--are presumably receiving rare 35mm presentations, but it's impossible to acquire that information online.

Can anyone confirm their screening format? If they are on 35mm, this is kind of a big deal for cinephiles... that also have mediocre taste in films... and happen to live near Muncie, IN.
