WELL WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT
so gonna be honest up front, itβs partially inspired by an old episode of monk as well as βblindsidedβ from httyd lol
hereβs what Iβve got so far: takes place post-zootopia 2, at the maximum six months later. team hopps and wilde are on patrol one afternoon, bantering like usual, pining like teenagers, and are interrupted when they get a call on their scanner to check in on some rather noisy disturbances happening in a piece of town theyβre not far from.
they arrive at the location, could be a house or an establishment, Iβm not sure of that part yet. but wherever it is, they walk in as a murderer is leaving. judy goes after the perpetrator before nick can stop or catch up with her, nothing incredibly new there; the guy trips her up, disarms her, and blinds her, most likely with some kind of spray (again, I need to work through the details further). she canβt see nick when he is finally able to reach her, and understandably sheβs in a panic, but he gets her to a hospital where sheβs eventually told there is a non-zero chance sheβll never see again.
the whole story from there (not very long. ten chapters, maybe?) is about how judyβs being given time off from the force because she literally canβt work without functioning eyes, and of course if sheβs not out there saving the city, judy feels like sheβs failing. nick valiantly offers to stay by her side and help take care of her where heβs able, especially when itβs obvious her mental health is taking a nosedive as a result of her being benched. cue the sappiness of nick pretty much abandoning his job in order to bring her meals and drive her wherever she needs to go and help her learn how to accommodate for her new disability, all while he is yearning, trying to make it evident heβs got feelings for her since itβs still difficult for him to come right out and say it, and judyβs too wrapped up in her fear that sheβs just destroyed her policing dreams to notice (at first). also, sheβs almost entirely convinced nickβs definition of βpartnersβ doesnβt align with hers, so sheβs burying her own feelings as she persuades herself nick is being kind purely because heβs a good man, not that he could ever love her in return (dumb bunny).
part of the story would be focused on the mystery of finding the murderer who blinded her, but the majority is about nick growing through his issues with vulnerability as he goes above and beyond for his bunny, and judy coming to fully understand that her self-worth isnβt entirely dependent upon her job or her dreams, sheβs still a person whether or not sheβs a cop, and sheβs not weak or underestimated by the one who cares about her the most. basically take their big talk on the weather wall at the end of z2 and weβd go deeper into those themes, while making it clear theyβve already experienced a great deal of growth. the fic would lean more on being hurt/comfort and character exploration, thereβd just be some plot in there, as well.
oh and they would kiss :3
