Lance and Keith messaged each other while he was with the Blade. They sometimes catch each other but mostly just leave messages back and forth. Until Keith gets lost in the Quantum abyss on the space whale. (I don't think it's specifically mentioned in the show, but for the sake of this story, Keith is gone for about 4 months Lance time. Also, I might jump around as I can't remember the actual timelime of events in the show. And a little bit of Langst)

Message 1

Lance explains team news and drama. Lance ends message by saying, " Be safe out there, Keith, love you, bye."

Message 2

Lance calls back immediately blushing hard, "I didn't mean to say that, not that I don't love you or anything, I do, just that I didn't mean to say it out loud like that. It was like the automatic response when you hang up with family or friends and you don't think about it, and I definitely wasn't thinking about it. But anyway, don't make it weird, like don't even mention it." Pause "be safe, Keith. "

Message 3

"So you are probably on a mission or been too busy or too tired to call me back. Which I totally understand. You're doing important stuff out there. I just hope this isn't because of what I said. Cause like I said, it's not a big deal, and you're not supposed to make this weird. So" pause "I hope you're okay, be safe Keith"

Message 4

(dealing with clone Shiro)

"Hey, I know you're not talking to me right now. But I just wanted to know if you have talked to Shiro lately. He's been weird and not really like himself. I know he's been through a lot, and this is probably normal. But if you get the chance, please call him. You know him better than anyone else. I hope to hear from you soon. Be safe, Keith"

Message 5

"You know screw you, Keith. I don't take back what I said. Its normal for the people in your life to know how you feel about them. You're my teammate, one of my best friends, and my favorite person to annoy. So yes, you mean a lot to me. I care about you. I want you to be safe and happy. I love you. Now get over whatever this is and call me back, you weirdo." Pause "I miss you. Be safe, Keith. "

Message 6

"Kolivan still won't tell me where you are or what you are doing. Said it's "classified," which I think is just an excuse. Call me back. I hope you are safe, Keith"

Message 7

Updates on team. Talking about Lotor. "...which i still don't know if I trust that guy. His story and his plans just seem too... I don't know, scripted, maybe. And everyone else just believes him and takes his word. Allura especially has taken a liking to him. Which I get they have, being Altean in common, and he is helping her with her magic, and she does seem happy. Which is all the more reason I'm worried about Lotor cause if this is all an act..lots of people will get hurt. I know you would be on my side. Mr trust issues." Deep breath."I like to think you trusted me, though. I hope I didn't ruin that. I seem to be ruining a lot of things lately. I miss you, I hope you are safe, Keith. "

Message 8

"I think i forgot to mention I unlocked a new Bayard form. According to Allura, it's an Altean broad sword like her father used to use. I've been practicing but I'm not very good at it. Ranged weapons always came easier to me. You could probably teach me if you were here. I wish you were here, and I think everyone else does too." in a sofer voice."Sometimes I just feel like a placeholder. Like everyone, including Red, is just waiting for your return. Red would probably want you back. It wouldn't be the first time I was rejected by a Lion. I wouldn't be my first choice either. Come back soon. I hope you are safe, Keith. "

Message 9

Updates on team, coalition, Lotor, the ships, Galra Emipre etc "Its been kinda crazy here with everything. Honestly, it's a bit overwhelming. And yet, I feel so alone. Everyone is busy doing important work, and I seem to just get in the way. Allura and Lotor are working on the new ship. Pidge and Hunk are working on new projects and updates all the time, and I can never keep up. Shiro is stressed and still being weird. Coran has been working on the castle and the coalition. I try to help when I can, but it's not much. Kaltenecker has been good. Sometimes, she's the only one I can talk to even though she doesn't talk back. Except you, but you don't talk back either. I hope you are safe, Keith. "

Message 10

(Right after the omega shield)

Lance is still in his armor. Hair sticking to his forehead with sweat. His face pale. His eyes distant. He is just sitting there in front of the camera looking off to the side, eerily still. He takes a deep breath "I..". His eyes slowly blink and then squeeze shut and he takes a deep, shaky breath. There is a shuffle and the camera shuts off.

Message 11

"So Kolivan finally told me the truth. That you've been MIA for months. I don't know if you are even getting these messages. He said the Blade would usually mark you as "not active" at this point. But he hasn't, cause he still believes in you. And so do I. So, Keith Kogane, wherever the hell you are. You better be alive, I hope you are safe. I miss you. I love you. Come home soon.

Julance Day 1: Post War

Inspired by the scene where Keith returns from the Galra and Lance lowkey has the hots for him…

If Lance was obsessed with being like Shiro and Keith to the point he doesn’t see his own merits anymore, just the gaps between them. If all he wanted was to be a leader, bcs that’s what his idols are doing so that’s what he wants to do too, to be exactly like them. If he beat himself up over Keith being picked over him as black paladin, bcs it only shows how hes not reached his goals.

If Keith was confronted head-on with the fact that hes not like Shiro, and never will be. If he tried to fix that, to no avail. If he finally realised hes just not a good leader, albeit not realising how good of a paladin he could still be. If he resigned himself to his fate of inevitably causing the end of Voltron.

If they both look at the other’s situation, immediately seeing how nonsensical it is. If Lance saw what Keith was going through, and thought “you’re the best paladin we have, you don’t have to be like Shiro, you don’t have to be a leader.” If Keith saw what Lance was going through and thought “you’re the best paladin we have, you don’t have to be like Shiro, you don’t have to be a leader.” If they didn’t dare actually speak to each other, but slowly realised their advice applied to their own predicaments as well.

If Keith finally understood that being a leader just wasn’t for him. If he understood what he was meant to be instead.

If Lance finally understood that he didn’t need to compare himself to others. If he understood how great of a leader he could be if he stopped.
