Rafael angst // Part 5
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4 // Part 5
- What did you get in return? - Huh? - he was confused beyond belief. She was acting detached, like she was hurt but decided not to show it. What did he get in return? In return of what? - In return of what? - yes, that was it, good question in his fumbled thoughts.Â
-When you sold me in the Nest, what did you get in return? Aaaaaaaah. The deal he hoped she would never learn about. How did she know, who told her? What was he supposed to answer to that? Lie? Tell her that it’s not what she thought it was? He didn’t sell her per se, not like that.Â
-It wasn’t a betrayal, MC. A fair deal between us. You wanted in the N109 Zone, I needed valuable information about things I’m looking for. It’s very important for my people.Â
-Lemurians? - her expression has finally lost that look of detached grief.Â
-Yes, - he’s not lying, it is about the Tome of Sea God. - Remember how I warned you about dangers of drinking from black cup. You’ve got what you wanted, I’ve collected my payment.Â
-You did. But why does it still feel like betrayal? - she’s sad now. He doesn’t want her to be sad. He wants her happy, he wants to see her smile. He can endure anything she gives him, as long as she lets him fix the bad things for her. Right now, she looks like she doesn’t need him anymore. He’s got no answers for her. He wants to fix it, but he doesn’t know how. Everything feels too fragile right now.Â
-But you are right. It was a fair deal, I guess. - MC’s smiling at him. It’s a dead smile, she’s not here right now. She’s deep in her thought and emotions. Through their bond he can feel something breaking right infant his eyes and he cannot do anything at all. But as always, she’s giving him an out. Maybe it’s her trauma response, maybe he’s just projecting. -I’m not mad, Rafael. Not at you, at least. The whole situation, probably at my reactions. But I need some time to come to terms with it. I’ll call you, okay?
Okay? No, this is defiantly not okay. It is not okay in the slightest, I want to die right here, he wants to scream. He panics. Is MC leaving him? Did he finally crossed that line?Â
How dare she abandon him like this? After all he’s done for her, sacrificed so many things? Always stood by her side, gave her his all? Betrayal. Yes, betrayal is what he feels right now. That, and her second orgasm that night. She was true to her words. She called him a week later, said that she understood. She called several times after that, answered his texts, send him some funny cats videos, commented on his post on social media. Even went on a walk on the beach with him. Sang Happy Birthday for him and made a cake. All the while never returning his touches, never really smiling in that particular way.Â
No, those smiles and touches she now gave willingly to that monster of a man, leader of Onychinus. She was weary at first. Didn’t trust him. Not now though. Now she’s running to him across that crosswalk, fear and relief mixed in her features. And there he towers over everyone on the sidewalk, holding his phone in one hand, looking like train had hit him on the face. He smiles at her. And Rafael knows that look. Knows it better than anyone. The look of a man that loves deeply, but gives that person he cherishes the freedom to choose. To come on their own will. And she did. Did choose him.Â
Everything burns in the flames of rage. The emptiness inside makes him wish he died on that night those long years ago and never returned. But all of that is silent, when the Sea God takes place. No more pain, and betrayal. Only the beating heart of the devoted follower he must reclaim.Â
