Using "putain" and "merde" adjectivally
(and by that I mean in the sense of “fucking” and “shit(ty)”)
So swearing is one of those things that usually has a grammar behind it that’s never really taught, but which sounds nonetheless pretty weird if you get it wrong. So here are some tips.
To describe something as “shit/shitty”, place de merde after it.
I’m telling you, Twilight is a shit book.
I’m going to arrive late, my shitty car broke down again.
“Fucking” on the other hand is expressed by placing putain de before the noun, and it’s important to note that while putain is invariable, any articles/demonstratives that precede it have to agree with the actual noun.
Ce putain de chat m'a mordu ! That fucking cat bit me!
I’m sick of this fucking school.
I hate Twilight, those fucking books are everywhere.
And of course, seeing as one precedes and one follows the noun, you can easily stack them up for a stronger swear.
I don’t want to live in this fucking shitty country anymore.
Happy swearing!
i want to use the school one
