“i feel like having the experience is worth it enough.” how amazing though: to know so many other languages even if just a little bit. “i only know japanese and english as my second and third language.” it wasn’t as impressive as being able to dabble in many. though some would argue that knowing three was good enough. haeun was still amazed. what a life ahyoung must have led!

haeun shrugged. “maybe if you practised again, it’d come back to you.” in fact, it’s already been a year since haeun spoke japanese fluently. a part of her can feel her fluency slipping due to lack of practise but she feels as though she could easily get back into the rhythm of it if she truly needed to. unfortunately she doesn’t see herself heading off to japan any time soon.

haeun hummed. she supposed there is nothing wrong with never travelling. “isn’t it a waste though? to have the ability and the means to without breaking a pocket yet i just….don’t?” how many muggles would kill for such an ability? though the more she thinks about it, haeun feels as though most witches and wizards simply don’t take out the time to travel when they easily could. it’s unfortunate.

she finds herself smiling at ahyoung. “wow, i would have thought you’ve definitely been there. at least to cairo or something!” but there was a warmth that filled her hearing the other offer that they travel together. “wow, i’d love that…” she absolutely would. she doesn’t think ahyoung knows how much it meant to her. “i think the biggest reason why i never traveled was because i had no one to go with.”

“But Japanese and English are really interesting already! Especially Japanese!” Ahyoung answered, “I've always thought it sounds so pretty, but never really got to learn much of it, maybe you can teach me a little when we can find the time?” she suggested, always up for learning something new, even just a couple phrases, words or interesting bits.

She hummed, agreeing, just practising a bit every day should probably be enough to keep the languages alive in her mind, but then, no matter how much she liked to learn and keep what she already knew stored somewhere in her mind, new things made her that much more curious.

“Hmm, sometimes there's just other things on one's mind, right?” she smiled, softly, “or maybe the thought of a foreign country is scary to some... but lives are long, you've still got more than enough time to visit all the countries!” she said cheerfully, preferring to change missed opportunities into ones had, rather than thinking about having missed them. Haeun had a point though, and maybe Ahyoung would have a different opinion if she sat at the other side of the conversation, maybe she couldn't judge it quite so well, since she did travel a lot, after all.

it was amazing,  how someone could get this competitive at something as trivial as holding their breath underwater the longest.  in a way,  it was utterly pointless,  made no sense,  nor did it provide either of them with anything educational or any sort of improvement.  but those were the exact things claude absolutely loved doing;  the nonsensical type of stuff he could easily share with ahyoung.  

“you do know i suck at magic,  right?”  he answered through a laugh,  short-lived,  but very amused regardless.  she’d been trying her best,  tugged out all kinds of tricks from her sleeve to beat him at the little game they set up in the pool.  and yet claude had done nothing but rely on sheer willpower.  his improved stamina because of volleyball helped heaps.

his hands lifted,  palms faced upwards in a small shrugging motion.  “but i can always let you win for once.  if that’d make you feel better.  i guess.”  there was something taunting about the way he spoke,  almost provoking her in the most playful way.  that was a big brother thing to do now,  was it not?  and he loved it so much.  she was the little sister he never got to have and a bit of teasing confirmed how fond he was of her.  

nimble fingers brushed wet strands of brown locks out of his face,  grin in his voice.  “let’s go for another round.  count to three!” 

“That only makes it that much more unfair,” Ahyoung pointed out, chuckling. She'd mainly relied on herbs so far, the only problem with that was, that, like other spells, one still needed the skills do control whatever was charmed up. That's where she usually failed, diving back up out of panic, before she could really adjust properly.

Her smiling face quickly fell, giving way for a sour expression instead. “I can very much win on my own, don't you underestimate me,” she said, though she wasn't really too upset. Plus, she really did feel like she would win this time. “Plus, not using magic is basically cheating, but I'll let it pass.”

She rolled her shoulders and got into position again, her wand in hand. While she did want to win, it was also interesting to try all these different possibilities out.

Malia was never able to learn much of potions through schooling with her mother. Delphine Moon was much more concerned about her daughter accidentally causing an explosion in her home than ensuring that it was a field she excelled in. Nevertheless, the girl was still somewhat familiar with ingredients being that they made up a majority of the store’s inventory. So despite being her first year in a formal potions class, Malia was exceptionally careful about the things she stirred into her cauldron.

It was so easy to alter a potion with a single misstep, thus she preferred to keep to herself when it came to her school work. The girl didn’t care too much about anyone around her, so long as they were paying attention to their cauldrons just as she was. This had proved to be a mistake just second later when Malia found herself covered in blue goo.

She frowned, in disbelief at what had just happened. The girl couldn’t see anyone, but she could hear an exasperated voice at her side. Malia brought her hands to her eyes, wiping away the colored residue before looking towards the culprit.

“What just happened…” Although she was a relatively patient person, Malia couldn’t completely rid her voice of the minor irritation itching away at the back of her throat. “That wasn’t very nice of you. What were you doing adding Hellebor into my cauldron? Were you trying to poison me?”

“I'm sorry,” she repeated, her voice already a bit calmer, as she was faced with the other girl's (understandable) anger. Still, shaky, but at least less so Though she had to say that she was a tiny little bit annoyed at the accusation of doing this on purpose. “It was an accident,” she clarified, but the annoyance not showing in her voice at all. It was still her fault no matter how one put it, after all.

“I'll just-” she said, taking out her wand and quickly murmuring the incantation to get the potion to disappear from the other girl, “and I'll replace the ingredients you used, of course,” Ahyoung added. If she could, she'd like to disappear into the ground right about now. One would think that things like these happened more regularly and yet she felt the eyes of the other students on her.  Why did things like these always happen on the worst days possible?

Night was one of Ahyoung's favourite times of the day. While she was usually a diligent student, so she didn't get to see much of it, she still loved to see the stars and the moon, or even just to stare into a dark night sky. 

As ever so often when she wasn't able to sleep, she hopped into her owl form after opening the window and jumped out of it. It was as freeing a feeling as ever, though a night flight wasn't her goal. 

Instead, she found herself up on the astronomy tower soon after, choosing the best spot to watch the stars from, but it appeared she wasn't alone today. It wasn’t hard to guess who the other person was, after all, they both like to look at and chat about the stars.

“Good evening,” she greeted, hoping she wouldn’t scare him too much. It wasn’t a secret that she was an animagus, but small owls could still easily be overlooked, especially with one’s eyes directed much higher.

despite travelling being so accessible to witches and wizards alike, haeun has never travelled. she doesn’t even count attending mahoutokoro as travelling when she never strayed outside of the campus grounds. that was school. she didn’t have cool travelling stories like ahyoung did. what was the point of learning english if she never travelled to other countries and used it to her advantage? she’s a little embarrassed to admit she’s barely even travelled in south korea. her life seems pretty dull that way.

“did you learn all of the languages of the places you’ve been?” haeun genuinely doubts that she was fluent in every single one if they moved so often but even if she managed to pick something up here and there would be really cool.

with the question diverted to her, she blushes. “oh, well, i’ve never even travelled before. anywhere.” her near 20 years of her life had been spent in school and within gyeongju’s borders. how pathetic. she wasn’t the biggest fan of apparation so she never used it but she could still just as easily use a port key or floo powder. she truly had no excuse to not travel. just that she was scared to go alone.

“i feel like i want to go everywhere. it’s so accessible to us, you know? muggles spend thousands of dollars for plane tickets. their means of travel is so inefficient and expensive but with magic i can go anywhere and save all of my money for my experience. yet i’ve just never done it.”

after giving it some thought the one place she really wants to go is…. “egypt. it’s historical and i know there’s ancient runes for us to see and ancient magic that’s been passed down for generations. i’d be excited to see it all! have you ever been?”

“Hmm,” Ahyoung hummed in thought, wondering how best to answer. “I tried, at least when we stayed for more than a month, but I forgot most of the little I managed to learn once we moved away. Magic was also a big help, but I'm fluent in German and French! Aside from that I remember most from Spanish and Italian, but it's probably not enough for more than casual conversation anymore,” she smiled. Deep down she was sad to have forgotten so many languages, but right now there was no room for sadness. Not during a nice conversation.

There were some bits and pieces she still remembered of other languages as well, though those were hardly enough to be mentioned.

Ahyoung nodded to show that she was paying attention and while the other talked, a little idea formed in her mind. She was rather curious to see if the other would be up for it, but if she was, it would be fun, she was sure of it. At the same time, it may be a bit much, especially so suddenly... so she decided to keep the idea for herself for now. The girl's next answer only assured her to ask sooner or later, though.

“There's nothing wrong with not travelling,” she said, wanting to point that out first. If her parents hadn't been a little bit special, she wouldn't have gotten around to most places either, or even considered travelling before starting uni.

There were many different ways to stay underwater for longer than a human body was usually equipped to. Some ways worked better, others much less good, but the shark head was always a good way to shock anyone who was off-guard. It wasn't her favourite, but it wasn't a bad option either.

“I won't lose this time, I've got a couple more spells and herbs up my sleeve!” she announced, determined not to lose like the last time. She wasn't actually a 100% convinced that she would win, but she definitely would give her very best. Usually, she didn't have as much of a competitive streak, but it almost felt like banter typical for siblings. She didn't actually have any siblings related by blood, but that only made this all the nicer.

The more she thought about it, the more it made sense that he would win again, he was a couple years older after all, but she was a very good herbology student and wasn't going to give up without trying.

“So, what's your sleeve got hidden for the next round?” she asked, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

As much As Ahyoung disliked her parent's travelling lifestyle as a child, she'd subconsciously done very much the same once she'd finished school. Mainly staying around Europe, the girl had seen and experienced a lot, leaving her with many stories to tell those who'd listen.

“Hmm, I think I know Germany and France best since I grew up and went to school there, but my favourite... I can't tell at all! Every city had something about it that I fell in love with and other things I could've lived without,” she chuckled, feeling a bit awkward about talking so much. She loved chatting about all the places she's been to, feeling fond of the memories, happy thinking about all her experiences.

“Is there any place you'd like to know more about specifically? Or is there any place you've ever wanted to go to?” she asked curiously, to divert focus away from her again, but also so she could make sure to talk about a place the other was actually curious about.

Travelling really was a great thing and she wouldn't change anything, except maybe, that she would like to travel with someone else, rather than alone. It was great to become more independent and self-confident, but the thought of all those adventures plus a friend was rather compelling as well.

Potions was one of her favourites, so it was no surprise that Ahyoung chose it as an extracurricular. She'd already found a spot to call her “usual”, but today everything was a little bit different. For some reason (and she didn't quite exclude having been hexed just yet), she felt extremely tired, exhausted even.

There wasn't much to be done, caffeine didn't help, but that was no excuse to miss any classes especially not one of her favourites. So, as best as she could, Ahyoung floated through the room to ask the professor for an ingredient she'd forgotten. The ingredient in hand and a hearty yawn, hidden behind her free hand, later, she made it back to her waiting potion and let it slip in.

Her eyebrows furrowed as the liquid turned blue and started to bubble, which was a rather direct sign that she should take a step or two back, but in her confusion, the girl just kept staring.

A loud plop later, she found herself covered in a good amount of blue, jelly-like potion and realised that the students directly gawking or laughing at her weren't those she'd greeted earlier.

“Oh no,” she murmured, turning her head to the side to look at the owner of this cauldron and ruined potion who was standing right next to her, “I'm so sorry!”

Autumn had officially started and the warm days were slowly becoming a thing of the past. To her, 22 degrees were quite perfect, actually, not too warm, not too cold and a light breeze was still a welcome thing without making her freeze too much. And yet, there was the promise of cosy sweaters, hot chocolate and orange leaves.

The girl was positioned next to Nahyun on a blanket, out in the fresh air, feeling comfortable and relaxed. A little basket with whatever treats she’d felt like buying from Honeydew waited somewhere in front of her and, basically, it was the perfect evening to relax, ignore uni work and do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day. Except, maybe, get another coffee, especially at a completely senseless time, one could never have enough coffee, right?

“A trip would be nice, don’t you think? To the mountains or the sea,” she said as she was lying on the blanket, staring up at the clouds that looked like bunnies, nifflers and indescribable, white fluff-balls. “The summer was much too short.”
