I have a lot.
I'll start with the basics:
1. I'm forever thankful and appreciative of SJM and the world she has created with such complex characters and plotline.
2. I really think my character in ACOTAR would be Tamlin's Defense Attorney. And yes, I have my receipts.

Men can publish near-identical action, thriller, and detective stories for decades and it’s called a “genre” or a “formula.” But when it happens in romantasy, suddenly it’s a controversy… sexist much?
Not defending plagiarism, but noticing a growing trend that seems to be only happening to female authors. Women in romantasy are more likely to be accused of "copying" or "plagiarism" than any other genre.
Just thinking about how Morrigan is vicious to Nesta, going out of her way to bait her and kick her while she's down, and the worst thing Nesta thinks about Morrigan is that she's a busy body who needs to mind her own business, and repeatedly expresses anger on behalf on what she was told Eris did to Morrigan. Meanwhile Morrigan is off telling people that Nesta should be exposed to the same violence and misogyny that Nesta herself judges others for inflicting on Morrigan.
And yet Mor is the sweetheart and Nesta is the bitch.
Quick tips for Writing Villains!!
☆ A villain who thinks they're the hero is scarier than one who knows they're evil.
☆ Give them something they love. It makes everything worse.
☆ Their logic should make sense, even if their actions don't.
☆ The best villains don't monologue. They ask questions.
☆ Not every villain needs a tragic backstory. Some people are just hungry for power.
☆ Let them win sometimes. Repeatedly, it raises the stakes.
☆ A villain who is polite is more unsettling than one who screams.
☆ They should change the hero just as much as the hero changes them.
☆ Give them a genuine friendship or loyalty somewhere. It humanizes without excusing.
☆ The scariest thing a villain can do is be right about something.
☆ Not every villain needs to die. Some walk away. Some become allies. Some just... disappear.
☆ A villain with a sense of humor is dangerous because you almost like them.
This sounds like a Villain I know.
He regularly thinks he's in the right.
Loves his Mate.
He does Win. A lot.
He has loyalty.
The amount of times I have seen theories about Tamlin being the baby daddy is countless at this point. It's too funny!

When Rhysand’s mother decided his future wife must be able to escape the clutches of a death god in order to prove her love for her son, Rhysand straight up surrendered Feyre to the Weaver. He sent his mate to a trap no other fae ever survived solely to satisfy his dead mother and his own ego.
When Tamlin had to make a woman profess her love for him in order to save all of Prythian at the risk of her getting harmed, he sent Feyre home.
Don’t ever get it twisted.
I'm so convinced Cassian is under valg/wyrdstone control (aka the same thing that controlled Dorian's dad and Kaltain in TOG). I theorize that Lucian learned about Valg when he was in the priestesses library during ACOWAR researching. And then in ACOSF, they tested out the Wyrdstone/Valg theory at The Band of Exiles meeting with Cassian.
Here's the scene:
"Cassian tried to think over the bellowing beast in his head that tightened every muscle of his body until only bloody violence would appease it. (.....This is Wyrdstone Coded and similar to how those under control would be triggered. )
"Easy,” Lucien said.
Cassian snarled.
"Easy,” Lucien repeated, and flame sizzled in his russet eye.
The flame, the surprising dominance within it, hit Cassian like a stone to the head, knocking him from his need to kill and kill and kill whatever might threaten—
They were all staring.
Cassian rolled his tensed shoulders, stretching out his wings."
This is imo Lucien giving Yrene/Aelin vibes. A healing light that can break Curses, from his Day Side genes (Yrene), mixed with the Fire power, from his autumn court genes (Aelin's fire). This male is a Valgs worst nightmare.
I'm a tad bit embarrassed. I shared an unpopular hot take from the Call Her Daddy podcast...in person... with a friend who is a Big Time Tamlin Hater. Oof.
See, I have mixed feelings about the Tamlin/Rhysand discussion on CHD.
For starters, I'm glad they discussed Tamlin at length. That it wasn't relegated to a rapid fire question. And, that they spent time really exploring what his story was and potentially could still be.
As a fan, it felt good to be somewhat validated. To me, it acknowledged, that readers are having vastly different interpretations of Tamlin's character in the series... and that it deserved to be addressed in a podcast format.
If anything its a testament to her writing, that she was able to write such an intricate character, where 2 people can read the same text yet have completely different interpretations.
Now, I went a little too far and projected my own interpretation of the podcast.. that I still think Tam is getting a redemption arc... because it was addressed with so much depth. SJM shared that's she talked to her really good friend about it, and that its going to be tricky, but he has a potential story.
I mean if she really wasn't planning on pursuing that story (or at least thinking about it), the answer probably would have just squashed the question. "Like no. Just no. That's not happening." There wouldn't have been any mention of the discussions she's had or as a writer how she's curious about his story. Or like the explaining of his trauma.
Idk. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. Maybe I'm not. But, at the end of the day, I think she has a really compelling story on her hands if chooses to go on that path. Which I would love, but until book 6 we really won't know.
The most messed up thing about UTM...
Is Feyre waking up sick. After being drugged against her will. Not knowing what happened....but knowing something did happen. Covered in marks that signified non-consensual touch. Having no memories of it, just the physical ramifications of it. As her friend Lucien, can barely make eye contact with her and share with her what has happened.

Feeling feisty today. Thought I might crack my knuckles and set some Tamlin hate straight.
1. Fae blowing up rooms during stress &/or at the on-set of freshly released magic that was repressed is: CANON.
So saying Tamlin was abusive for blowing up the room, ignores the normalcy of this in sjm fae lit.
Examples:
When Dorian broke a wall and blew up a room with Sorscha in it after his magic was released.
When Aelin damn near killed Chaol, scratched/scarred his face after Nehemia died.
When Bryce blew up the interrogation room after the stress of the Pack dying.
When Feyre injured Lady of Autumn during the High Lords meeting, after a stressful comment.
When Rhysand burst through and shattered the House of Winds windows after Nesta helped Bryce's parents.
When Aelin had pent up energy from the mask, enough to hold an entire damn of water back.
When Rhysand stated that he has to release energy by fighting with Cassian and Az, or sense the magic builds up and implodes.
2. He trapped her in the house.
But let's not forget, she has a bargain with someone who k-d his entire family and who was partnered with Amarantha for 50 years. Ianthe is telling him the other High Lords want to attack her for her having a drop of their power.
Rhysand also trapped her in the HoW for a week at a time despite her begging to be returned.
Rhysand also didn't help her escape UTM imprisonment despite having a secret city to hide her in.
He then went onto force her sister, Nesta, into house imprisonment.
Not to mention Hewn City citizens, Velaris Citizens, and Ilyrian warriors that are not allowed to leave.
3. He didn't help her PTSD
He stayed up all night in beast mode guarding the door. He gave her the space she asked for. And worked tirelessly to break her of a bargain she didn't want to be in.
Tamlin's stages of grief throughout the books
People who don't think Feyre is going to have a villain arc...guys she literally killed a wolf/fae in the first book because of the hatred in her heart.
She broke into Tarquin's mind and manipulated him.
She destroyed the Spring Court.
She doesn't see anything wrong with Hewn City.
Just to name a few....

Re: Tamlin's Redemption Arc
Even though as Tamlin fans, most of already believe he's had his redemption....I do think his character arc still needs one.
Because Tamlin is the one seeking forgiveness. He carries all the weight of guilt and shame. Blames himself for everything. His mothers death. Not being "good enough" for his cruel father. For Rhysand's sister and mother's deaths (which we still don't know his whole side of events). For Feyre. For Lucien. For his warriors. For the ones he couldn't protect. For his court in disarray. For giving love to those who hurt him.
Honestly, I just wish he could have jumped through that portal Bryce opened and got the hel out of there. Got a fresh start.
But since that's not the case, I would love to see a story where the weight of what he carries is explored and healed and redeemed.

Reread HoEAB.
Bryce and Hunt are my favorite SJM couple.
So I'm watching Outlander, and there's a scene where Jamie, as Laird, collects Tithe from his clan.
And, it wasn't a bad thing. Jamie was very understanding, even offered an extension to the clansman who wasn't able to pay it at that time.
It reminded me so much of Tamlin.
So remind me again, why do we criticize Tamlin for collecting tithes?
