Dear people who have seen the KONY 2012 video and are now plastering it to every wall on Facebook: There are a few things you might want to know about the charity and some things that weren't mentioned in the video.
First of all, people sent in approximately 8.6 million dollars into the charity. What you don't know is that only 32% of it went directly to the charity. The rest, spent on the 30 minute video you watched, travel, and equipment.
Second of all, the 32% of the millions of dollars sent in are being spent on the Ugandan army which is run by the government dictatorship of Uganda. The Ugandan army has been convicted of some of the same things Kony's army has been convicted of in the past. The money you are sending isn't actually being spent on doing those things, but it's like giving a criminal money, but they won't do anything illegal with it.
Thirdly, the army's job is to capture Kony and bring him to court. There's a few problems with that. Kony's bodyguards are children. Children! Someone's going to have to kill children in order to stop Kony. If there is a raid on him, something like what happened with Osama will happen and he'll wind up getting killed. Along with a bunch of children. Even if they do kill Kony, that doesn't necessarily mean that Lord's Resistance Army will collapse.
Last, the U.S. has currently made it's objective to capture or kill Kony. This seems a bit unconstitutional if you ask me. There are plenty of warlords and dictators in Africa that are as bad, if not worse, than Kony. If the U.S. does go all out with this, will that set a precedent for all the warlords in the world? Think that over for a few minutes. OR you could be a total dick and hate on this or call me heartless. Your choice.
