I saw a HR post-TLG headcanon where if Shane and Ilya had a kid, that Ilya would be the stricter parent and would be a harsher disciplinarian on kids. Because 'Russians are tough' or whatever. And obviously, you can have what ever headcanons you want, it's very much not a big deal what you think of a fictional character, but I'm going to tell you why I think that's wrong.
So, the late 80's-early 90's, especially in Russia were different times. Realistically, Ilya was probably getting the shit beaten out of him by his father. Caning and belting was really common, Russia didn't have a real version of CPS (at the time, the best they had was the Guardianship and Trusteeship Authorities program and just straight up institutionalization to overcrowded state-run orphanages.), so Ilya didn't have much of a choice then to just endure. And call me crazy, but Gregori does not seem like a man to be soft. At all.
Because of this, I doubt that Ilya would want they're children to go through anything even remotely similar to what Ilya went through. Let be real, the Hollanov children are being grounded and having real conversation with their dad's much sooner than they are being spanked. Saying that Ilya still had more traditional Russian beliefs feels like a mischarcterization.
Would he spank Shane.......? .... maybe. Maybe. That's a different topic though. Sorry for the rant, lol. Just my thoughts.
