Summary: Reader and Jack are expecting, and they have a 4 year old adopted daughter. Â Reader is a social worker and the childâs late biological mother had a terrible life. Â Nothing is told in detail though. Â Itâs Halloween and they are celebrating the holiday. Â Some angst/ pain of the past miscarriages is discussed but not in detail. Â This is also very domestic married Whiskey, his job isnât really mentioned, in this verse he isnât active in the field much though as he is with his family most of the time. Â Â Sorry this took forever! Â
Once you got home, Jack helped you into comfy pj pants and a loose tee, as Faith bounced around the house with excitement. Â
âYou sure you can handle all that yourself cowboy?â You teased, smiling at Jack as he helped you up onto the bed and sat next to you. Â
He scoffed. Â âYouâre not weaselinâ your way outta this bed my love. Â Iâve got her darlinâ,â he said, arranging the pillows to make sure you had enough back support. Â
You huffed, narrowing your eyes at Jack. Â âYou know me too well sir,â you admitted, playfully tapping his thigh with your foot.
âI should hope so, seeinâ as how I married ya,â he replied, pressing his lips gently to yours. Â You chased his lips, pulling him back in for another kiss, hand stroking the stubble on his cheek. Â You let out a whimper into the kiss, as you licked his lips and he opened to allow your tongue in. Â Jack sighed, hand gently caressing your stomach as he leaned over you. Â
You whined as he pulled back, pouting as you shifted in your spot. Â That was another thing about this pregnancy - you were turned on a lot more than normally. Â You always wanted Jack but now the need seemed to be near constant.
âNow now, sweetheart,â he teased, rubbing his nose with yours. Â âI know Iâm irresistible, but our daughter awaits,â he grinned, enjoying the need in your eyes. Â
You rolled your eyes but could still feel heat creep up your neck. Â You sighed as you pulled yourself a bit higher on the bed, trying to get comfortable against the headboard. Â
Jackâs expression immediately shifted to concern.  âYa got enough pillows sugar?â He asked, searching your face.  âYou want the heatinâ pad baby?â
âYes please. Â And the phone, since you did promise to FaceTime me.â
âI havenât forgot, Iâll get both of those darlinâ,â Jack placed a kiss to your forehead before getting up to get you what you needed. Â
You smiled as you could hear Faith's little feet running into the room. Â âHey baby girl,â you said, running a hand through her hair as she came to your side. Â
âMomma you be okay here, without us?â She said, her little face suddenly serious, as she looked at you.
As goofy as she could be, Faith was extremely empathic. She could often tell if something was off, her perceptiveness still often surprised you as you inhaled through your nose, fighting not to get emotional.
âOh my sweet sweet love, yes honey, I will. Â Thank you baby,â you cooed as you cupped her cheek with your hand. Â âNow, you be patient with daddy, hmm? Be good for him? I know heâs not as good at trick or treating as me,â you said the last part in a mock whisper, loud enough for Jack to hear as you smirked when he returned with everything to make you comfortable.
He placed his hand over his heart in mock hurt. Â âMy ladies donât respect my skills,â he sighed, shaking his head. Â But the wide grin on his face showed he enjoyed the joke. Â
âDaddy it ok, you do good donât worry!â
âWhy thank you mâdear,â Jack smiled down at her.Â
âI help?â She asked, reaching for your phone from her father's arm, Jack keeping the heating pad out of reach. Â Faith pouted, but Jack just shook his head.
âYou get the phone princess, and then I left some water for momma in the kitchen and some crackers, can you please get those ? Donât run now, go slow,â he reminded her, looking pointedly over to Faith.
âJack if she drops it, the glass-â you begin before Jack cuts you off. Â
âDarlinâ I grabbed a plastic one,â he laughs, smiling fondly at you. Â âEverythingâs okay honey, donât ya worry that sweet mind of yours so much,â he said as he arranged the heating pad behind you. Â
You sighed, nodding. Â He was right, Jack always looked out for his family. Â Your exhaustion was just upping your anxiety. Â
You smiled as Faith came back with the glass and snacks, walking quickly until Jack gave her a look, and she slowed down. Â
âI got water and snacks for you mamma,â she said, very pleased with herself as she came to your side, and you took them from her. Â
âThank you little bat,â you smiled, and Jack reached over to help you put the items on your bedside table. Â
âYou have all that ya need sweetheart?â Jack asked, hand giving your thigh a gentle squeeze.  As much as you worried, you knew Jack also worried about you. Â
You smiled, leaning forward to place a kiss to his lips. Â âIâm okay honey, donât you worry your sweet mind,â you teased, repeating his words. Â
He nodded, pulling back and placing a lingering kiss to your forehead. Â âWe wonât be gone too long, and Iâll FaceTime you at the first house. Â But if you need us back sooner, you let me know, promise?â He asked softly, rich brown eyes filled with love and concern for you. Â
âPromise,â you said softly, squeezing his hand.
âDaddy!! Letâs go!â Faith whined, interrupting the tender moment. Â
âGive momma a kiss, then off you go,â you laugh, as Faith comes to your side to do so. Â âHave fun my loves,â you say, fixing her bat wing. Â
âOh we will,â Jack says, reaching for Faithâs hand.
âWe love you mommy! See you later, we get more Reeseâs!â She exclaimed, pulling her father in the direction of the door as you both laughed at her excitement. Â
âSee ya soon darlinâ,â Jack winked back at you as he let Faith pull him out of the room. Â God, you loved them both so much. Â And you were slowly allowing yourself to get attached to the baby growing inside you, now that your pregnancy had progressed. Â It was still hard to fully accept it though, after the heartache from your miscarriages.
You picked up the phone when Jack FaceTimed you shortly thereafter, propping the phone up on a pillow as you lied down on your side, smiling at your little family. Â You were so tired though, and decided to close your eyes for just a second between houses as the two continued on their adventure.
Jack, meanwhile, chuckled to himself as he saw you snoring softly when he looked at the phone. Â
âWell that didnât take long. Â Sleep sweetheart. Â I love you so much honey,â he whispered, smiling at you fast asleep. Â
Jack turned off the FaceTime after a bit to let you rest, but he made sure to keep taking photos and filming Faith. Â You would be a terror if he didnât. But he understood, he hated missing out on anything when it came to his two angels. Â
Jack smiled as Faith yawned by his side, but still fought to keep her stride. Just as stubborn as her mother. Â
âGettinâ sleepy my little princess? Time to go home and show momma what we got hmm?â
âMore houses,â she pouted, but her little yawn gave her away. Â
âHmm maybe a few more on the way home but then we should go back, momma is sure to be lonely. Â We canât leave her lonely now can we?â Â
Faith looked up at her dad, little brow furrowing in consideration. Â âOkay,â she conceded, as the two headed back in the direction of home.
As they were getting closer, Jack was about to scoop the half asleep Faith up when a teenager swooped out with a loud boo in some kind of scary horror mask and cloak, only to laugh and run away.
âHey now,â Jack snapped, not wanting anything to frighten Faith. Â But with her exhaustion it was too late, he heard her little hiccup and sob at his side. Â
âOh baby, itâs alright. Â Just a silly kid, daddyâs got ya,â he cooed, sweeping his daughter up in his arms where she buried her little face in shirt. Â âDaddy wonât let anyone hurt you honey,â he said, rubbing her back as he quickened his stride past the next few blocks to where your house is.
Faithâs cries were subsiding into little sniffles, Jackâs heart slowing down in relief. Â He knew his daughterâs tears were partially due to her being so tired, as she let out another yawn between her now softer cries. Â She was a lot like you in that way. Â Exhaustion often made you cry. Â
âHey weâre goinâ home and mommaâs gonna cuddle us, donât ya be sad now baby girl,â he said softly, unlocking the front door and bouncing faith on his hip like he did when she was tiny. Â It broke his heart into pieces whenever you or Faith were hurting or crying. Â Even though it was clearly a kid who had scared her, he still wanted to smack them upside the head. Â No one made his little princess cry.
Faith nodded, little hands tight around Jackâs neck as he walked as softly as he could to your bedroom.
Hoping you were still asleep and wouldnât cry when you saw the tears that clearly stained Faithâs face. Â Part of it was your hormones true, but you loved so fiercely even without that. Â Jack felt his heart swell at the thought. Â How devoted you were to him and Faith, and how lucky that little baby you both had made was to have you as their mother. Â It was like the warmth of the sun, having your love shine on a person. Â And he was so grateful to be in your sweet rays.
âMomma is sleepinâ, so letâs be quiet okay sweetie,â he whispered, placing Faith down on the bed gently. Â
âMommaâs awake, itâs ok,â you said, stirring. Â You never slept that deeply since becoming a mother, your body way too ready to leap right away should your little family need you. Â âI canât believe I fell asleep,â you groaned.
âYou needed it darlin, donâtcha worry, I got video,â Jack said, sitting next to you and rubbing your back. Â
âYou better have,â you teased, smiling as Jack leaned over to place a brief kiss to your lips. Â
âMomma, there was a scary ghost,â Faith whimpered as Jack pulled off her little shoes and she moved to cuddle up next to you. Â You still had the bedside light on, but you rubbed your eyes, still fuzzy with sleep. Â
âWhat honey,â you said, sitting up further and focusing on your daughter. Â You let out a tiny gasp seeing her eyes red from crying. Â
Jack sighed. Â âDonât panic now sweetheart, some kid just jumped out and startled her.â
âOh honey,â you whispered, pulling your daughter into your arms. Â âIâm so glad daddy was with you baby, thatâs awful,â your voice cracked, and Jack could tell you were fighting off crying at seeing your little girl upset. Â âDaddy will always always protect you though. Â He would never let anyone hurt us you know that right, baby,â you rasped, looking up at your husband with watery eyes. Â
âYea, I think daddy scare them away,â she nodded, smiling at you. Â
Jack smiled back, toeing off his own shoes and moving to wrap his arms around you two. Â He felt emotion tighten his throat too. Â That he had this wonderful family, everything he always wanted, right in his embrace. Â And they wanted and needed him just as much. Â His family. Â Â
âDaddyâs got his girls,â he whispered. Â
Faith nodded against you, snuggling closer into your side. Â As much as she could anyway with your stomach in the way. Â
âWe watch movie now?â Faith mumbled, exhaustion starting to bring her to dreamland.
âYes⌠you want Casper again honey, the sweet ghost?â You said, referencing her favorite movie. Â
âYea,â she said, rubbing her little eyes. Â Jack moved to put on the tv in your room, as you went to move her little bat wings off. Â
âMomma noooo I need my wings..â she whined, pouting at you. Â
âOkay, okay, yes dear,â you said, moving to get comfortable. Â You kept trying to breathe deep, upset about your daughter crying without you there. Â You knew she was safe with Jack but seeing her with a tear stained face reminded you of when she was a baby, the constant tears when you both had to make late night ER trips. Â How much it hurt you both that you couldnât take her pain or fear away. Â All you could do was be there, and of course you were so thankful for Jack. Â He was your spine during these times, holding you up when you were sure you would have crumbled without his foundation. Â
âYou alright darlinâ?â Jack whispered, rubbing your thigh. Â
âYea Iâm...Iâm gonna go pee, start the movie Iâll be back,â you said, avoiding your husbandâs eyes. Â You knew Jack could see right through you and if you looked into those deep chocolate eyes you would fold and cry. Â
âOkay, lemme help you up sweetheart,â he said, holding out his hands to help you, not pushing you on your avoidance of his gaze. Â
âThanks,â you whispered, squeezing his hand as you scurried off to the en suite bathroom.
Jack sighed, inhaling deeply and smiling as he looked back at your daughter. Â
âOkay, letâs watch baby. Â Or you wanna sleep?â He teased, as Faith fought sleep, her little head dropping in a way yours did when you were tired. Â
âNo,â she pouted, snuggling into her dads side. Â
âAlright,â he chuckled, wrapping an arm around her as he pressed play.
****
It took about 10 minutes for Faith to fall fully asleep. Â Jack smiled as he lowered the volume on the tv, waiting to turn it off fully in case she woke up. Â He waited another few minutes more, then slowly moved his arm from Faith to go check on you.
âHoney,â he whispered at the door, not wanting to wake Faith but knowing you needed him. Â And it also made him nervous that you were so quiet. Â He knew you probably went into the bathroom to cry and it broke his heart.
He heard a little whimper in reply, and opened the door. Â
âBaby, are you-â he said gently, closing the door gently behind him. Â His heart fell as he saw you red faced from crying, the fan having muffled your weeping along with your hand at your face.
âIs Faith, is sheâŚâ you said, tears making your breaths short, and he knew what you were asking.
Jack immediately moved forward to wrap you in his arms.
âSheâs asleep darlinâ, itâs okay Iâm here. Â Oh sweetheart. Â I promise she wasnât hurt just startled,â he said softly, rubbing your back. Â
Your sobs increased, a little whine of Jackâs name slipping from your lips as you buried your face in his shirt. Â You clung tightly to it, and Jack felt his own eyes fill with tears. Â
âI know I âŚ.I just...I donât knowâŚâ you rambled, struggling to catch your breath.
âHey, hey, shhh, you donât have to explain honey. Â Itâs me. Â I know. Â I know how hard you love. Â But Iâm here. Â I have you. Â Always,â he said, his own voice cracking. Â
You shook with your sobs as Jack held you up and you practically melted into his arms. Â
He held you like this for some time, cooing and whispering his love for you in your ear, as he continued to rub your back. Â How had you gotten so lucky to have a man this wonderful, you would never know. Â This loving. Â Who knew you better than you knew yourself it seemed.
âBreathe my love, Iâm here,â he said, pressing his lips to the top of your head. Â
You sighed, nodding into his shirt. Â You felt your heart rate start to slow as you clung to your husband. Â
After a while he pulled back to press his lips softy to yours. Â âI love you so much sweetheart,â he whispered against your lips, then peppering kisses over your tear stained face. Â You giggled, smiling widely with his affections. Â
âI just..I hate seeing her sad Jack. Â How am I gonna handle it when theyâre both sad,â you said, your lip quivering again, as you looked down at your belly.
âOh sweetheart, itâs not gonna be easy. Â But both our kids have two parents who love them and will hold them when they cry. Â They wonât have to face anything alone,â he whispered, caressing your cheeks.
âYea,â you whispered, tears falling again. âDamn these hormones,â you moaned, rubbing at your eyes. Â
âDont be so hard on yourself sweetheart, and let me,â he gently removed your hands, placing a soft kiss to them and wetting a washcloth to ever so delicately wipe your tears. Â
âHow are you so perfect Jack,â you said, looking into those expressive eyes and seeing nothing but love and concern in them. Â Your darling husband.
âNow, you know Iâm not honey. Â I just married an angel, and I wanna take care of her. Â And our little family.â Â
âYouâre ridiculous,â you laughed lightly, but there was no malice in your tone. Â You felt heat rise to your cheeks as you good naturedly rolled your eyes.
âRidiculously in love with you, yes darlinâ, I am,â he said, grinning at your reaction and tickling your sides.
âDork,â you teased, giggling at him.
âYea but your dork sweetheart, and you love it.â
âI do,â you said softly, pressing another kiss to his lips, humming into the kiss. Â
âShall I go put our little bat to sleep sweetheart,â he said, arms still holding you, swaying you in his embrace.
âCan sheâŚcan she stay in bed with us tonight Jack?â You said.  âI just want to be with my whole little family tonight,â you said, rubbing your belly. Â
Jack felt his heart melt at seeing you call the new baby family. Â He knew how hard it was for you, how you loved this little one but how scared you were to let them in. Â As much as it hurt him to loose your other pregnancies he knew he could never imagine how hard it must be to have that loss so directly.
Jack swallowed thickly, smiling down at you with unshed tears in his eyes. Â
âThat sounds good honey,â he whispered, kissing your forehead then leading you back to your room to change.
After Jack got his pjs on, you two slipped into bed on either side of Faith, Jack gently removing her bat wings as she slept. Â He pressed a kiss to the crown of his daughters head. Â âWe love you so much sweetie,â he whispered as she fussed a little in her sleep, then curled into her fathers side. Â
You switched off the bedside light, scooting closer to Faith and Jack, wrapping an arm around them as best you could with your belly. Â
âYou comfy honey,â Jack whispered, reaching over and stroking your arm. Â You could see the love reflected in his deep brown eyes from the moonlight streaming in through the window.
You nodded smiling. Â
âI love you so much Jack. Â And our kids,â you smiled, eyes bright at him, as you gently pushed some of his hair off his forehead.
âI love you too. Â The best family a man could ask for, honey. Thank you for our angels and for being my wife,â he said, his voice so low and full of emotion you felt tears prick your eyes again.
âOh honey, thank you for being the best husband a girl who could ask for. Â And the best father,â you cooed, stroking his cheek. Â
Jack smiled and leaned over, pressing a kiss to your lips, careful not to jostle Faith. Â
âNo thanks needed honey,â he said against your lips, before settling back to his side as Faith started to stir.
âShh honey, mamma and papa are here,â he said.
Faith made a little noise then settled back into sleep. Â
âGoodnight sweet loves,â you whispered, smiling at them both as you snuggled close to your family.
Jack smiled widely at you, mouthing the words back as he wrapped his arms around you both. Â You closed your eyes and sighed, so happy to be with your world. Â Your family.
