i say not all men are sexists and responsible for the patriarchy. I say my father and brother and male best friends and male teachers will fight to death to defend my place in the world. I say that there are way too many disgusting oppressive men out there that need to be fought. But feminism is a movement that states that women deserve to be equal and empowered and shouldn’t feel the need to conform to any predetermined characteristics associated with being a woman because there is no way to generalize and set the norms of a gender. Same way there is no way to generalize all men or all white men. Feminism is fighting the patriarchy. The patriarchy doesn’t consist of all the men in the world, it’s a system of our history (created and perpetuated by men and some women). We don’t deserve less because of the gender we are and they don’t deserve to be judged for the gender they are. Being a man doesn’t make you inherently sexist or violent. Those are characteristics and traits independent of someone’s gender. And just because they’re born privileged doesn’t mean they actually use the privilege and oppress us. I am proud to identify as a feminist and stand up for women’s rights but this is not a gender battle, it’s a humanitarian battle.
