My Dear M. & D.
Well this really is different to anywhere I’ve seen before. We arrived as you probably heard ten hours late due to a stopover in Alaska (actually I think I sent you a card) because of a Typhoon here.
The security precautions are unbelievable and probably too much. All the same the accommodation is very comfortable. This is certainly one of the largest suites I’ve ever occupied complete with dining room to seat ten and kitchen!
Last night Peter [Brown] and I left the rest in the Hotel and went out to see a little. We dined at a Japanese restaurant leaving our shoes at the door and sitting on the floor. In the main I wasn’t crazy about the food and I rather think it’ll be the Hilton coffee shop tonight! Later we were entertained at a rather lovely typical Japanese house. All very interesting.
After Manila some of the boys and myself are going to (unofficially) have a couple of nights in New Delhi (India) on our way home. This means I should be back July 8th.

‘Just one more card from Tokyo (you’ve done very well this trip!) The picture on the front is of the hall where we played here with the rest of the huge city in the background. I’ve enjoyed this trip very much. Although it’s been as hectic as always, it’s been a very happy one. Tomorrow we leave for the Philippines and should be back early next Friday. All love, Brian’Â

Under Epstein’s control, the Saville promoted new works by writers, and on occasion fell foul of the Lord Chamberlain’s censorship laws by staging plays with obscene content or nudity.
From 1966 onwards the theatre began staging music events, with performers including the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Procol Harum and The Who. The Sunday night shows proved particularly popular, as most other venues were closed on the day.
