Walking in the woods of the great Pacific Northwest. Sofya joined me on a hitch hiking trip back in 2011 where we started in Seattle and made our way down to San Francisco. Shortly before we got stuck, in Forks, Washington (hell) because of an awful virus I came down with, we hiked into the National Park south of Port Angeles for a night camping by Lake Angeles. These photographs illustrate our hike through the natural area we found ourselves surrounded by, in a more modest way. The trees were immense and the Fog was dense; however in some brief moments when the more present forces of magic dispersed it was simply a matter of putting one foot in front of the other, tasting the fresh air and observing how the light played across the smaller timber, not quite yet pillars, that we moved through.

Its funny how you don’t go to new places in an area you know kinda well until you go with someone who hasn’t been before. After my car broke down (damn rabbits chewed my alternator wires) instead of hiking somewhere up the Homestake road, Natasa, myself and Luma (the pooch) walked from Leadfoot Linda’s into Minturn. We took some back streets to get off the highway and while there was nothing spectacular back there it was a fun little dusty dirt road that I had never been down before. If anyone wants a TV, it might still be there!

This September I made my way down to Tres Piedras, NM for the Tribal Vision festival. Experiences at festivals are sometimes what you would expect, sometimes strange, magical, mundane, deep and shallow. Tribal Vision was far from large, or commercial which set it up nicely for feeling more intimate and unique. No lines of nicknack vendors, mostly individual artists selling their paintings and crafts. Little fireside kitchens with suggested donations for breakfast burritos and coffee. Lots of emerging musicians, not really any huge names. In a lot of ways it felt more like a “gathering” than a “festival”, I shot a few rolls of film, but I risked using some untested old expired c41 color film that didn’t come out at all and had just a few shots on this roll so most of this weekend will remain for me only in memory and that is completely alright. Eli and I began the season cutting downed trees to size. over 400 logs to be used for trail structures on the Mt Bierstadt trail. We cut them all down near Bailey, CO. Our first trip with a haul of logs to the trailhead it looked like this. The wind was howling my hand went numb fairly quickly. It wasn’t currently snowing but the wind was so strong horizontally and the snow so light and dry that it was pretty much a sideways snow storm. Spring often isn’t so Spring-y in Colorado. A return to Twin Lakes, CO was inevitable. I had a strong internal pull to get back to Colorado. I strong pull to continue working the land, building sustainable trails on the ever so popular Colorado Fourteeners. I had a strong pull to get back to some of the people I know and love that work them with me. One of my first days back, just as work was about to pick up. Tom, Miriam, Ben and I took a stroll along the beach of Twin Lakes. While working on the trails, often a good distance into them you get pretty fixated on following their line (as you should!). While a beach shore is still a pre-determined path, it feels more like a wander. These are people I can wander with. May 2015- MountainMan/CityBoy
Disclaimer: This is not on Coney Island.

I present to you the Coney Island Boardwalk along Highway 285 near Bailey, CO. Situated on the side of the road in the woods like the Witch’s gingerbread house from Hansel and Gretel. I tried to get a dog there many times, but they seemed to keep odd hours. So I give you my short review based on other reviews that I found online. The food is shit, the service is bad. I think you should go2015 -MountainMan/CityBoy

Bumming around my parents neighborhood in Durham, NC after a couple months in South America last spring time I found myself hanging out without a bunch of awesome folks in Carrboro, NC. Everyone in the Sunday Brunch crowd, for how little time I spent with you all, I hold you deep in my heart. -April 2015 MountainMan/CityBoy

Back in May I met up with an old friend from school back in Boston. I stayed with her and her awesome roommates in Nederland, CO. We walked around, climbed some mountains, hugged some trees, ate some food, stared at some puddles and stumbled onto a geo-cache. You know the simple things. It was awesome. -MountainMan/CityBoy 2015
