Beating Barely surviving the heat π«
you named a fat trans fur after the Greek God of the Sun. Wouldnβt Dionysus make more sense??I get that you are named Dionysus on here but like
Other than the fact that I use Dionysus as a handle already, it's also not the only facet of my personality. Here are the main reasons why I chose the name Apollo for my sona:
As both a Gemini and someone with ADHD, I've often experienced my inner world as a kind of duality. In its simplest form, it felt like a light and dark half - split versions of myself that I would only later recognize as inward rejection (the shadow self) and the outward persona I cultivated to survive (the mask). It's a theme that appears again and again in both mythology and psychology, which is why I originally considered naming him Pollux. The symbolism of twins and divided selves resonated with me, but something about Castor and Pollux never quite felt like the right story. Instead, I found myself returning to Apollo and Artemis.
Apollo is most often remembered as the god of light, healing, music, and prophecy. But before Apollo, there is Artemis, his twin sister. Though she is best known as the goddess of the hunt, Artemis is also a protector: of wild things, of children, and of young women as they pass through the uncertain thresholds of life. She is a goddess intimately connected to transition, growth, and even acts of physical transformation.
My discovery of self and the courage to bring that to light was only possible because of the shadow work I've done and continue to do. I had to confront the parts of myself I buried beneath expectations that were never truly mine. I had to stop measuring my worth by the comfort of people who only accepted the version of me they wanted to see. Before I could embrace my identity, I first had to learn to love every part of myself, even the parts I had been taught to reject.
So it felt fitting to think that perhaps Artemis had protected me all those years. While the world insisted on seeing me as someone I wasn't, perhaps she stood quietly at my side, protecting me until I was strong enough to claim my own truth. She watched over me through the long process of becoming, safeguarding the person I had always been until I could finally emerge. Until she could assist with my own transformation, and hand me into her brother's care. Apollo, the god of light, and of healing. Because that is where my journey has led me now. A new path towards a life lived in the light, more honest than before. One defined not by survival, but by recovery, growth, and the quiet work of becoming whole.
Also maybe, most importantly, because I like it. π€
The full ref sheet for my new fursona, Apollo! This is the first time I've truly made a sona for myself since I transitioned, and every aspect has been made to reflect some part of me that I love or am learning to accept, and I can't believe how healing it's been to watch him come together. π

Finally finished my new fursona, Apollo! This is the first time I've truly made a sona for myself since I transitioned, and I spent ~45 hours fussing over colors and designs until it finally felt right. π Now to draw shameless belly kink art huehuehue

I'm getting so soft and cute π₯Ήπ
Finally did a full overhaul on my OC's design and I'm pretty happy with how he turned out!
Dresden is my ale-loving wildhunt shifter (arctic fox), used primarily in an RP-heavy D&D campaign. That, and as muse for my artistic whims. ππ

Note: Sword's design is not mine, it just fit the aesthetic for my character. Credit to Miles Wadsworth!
Oops, I got fatter π

how does diabetes affect your daily life?
Honestly, not as much as I feared when I first received the diagnosis. To be fair, my A1C is not very high and I am able to manage it without insulin injections. I imagine if I had higher glucose, I would be experiencing much more severe symptoms.
Obviously one of the biggest changes is how I eat. I still enjoy sweets and carbs, but I have to enjoy them in smaller servings and I try to avoid them at night as best I can (cause fun fact, your glucose goes up when you sleep). I only have a few annoyances. Firstly, dry skin and frequently needing to pee, which go hand in hand. When you blood glucose is high, your body tries to flush some of it out, which means you pee more and constantly feel dehydrated. When I'm managing my diet well, these issues aren't quite so bad.
Perhaps most frustrating as a gainer is that high glucose can make you lose weight - which was the symptom that prompted me to get checked out. Since developing diabetes, my gains have been a slow climb. But we're getting there! I'm officially back up to 246, and while I'm still shy of my heaviest, my belly is definitely at its biggest π

what have people been saying about your growth?π
A friend I met through Grommr said that he always has to remind himself to be polite around me because I look so squishable π₯°. And his partner, who I consider much larger than me, complimented me for being able to out eat him!
Not so much a direct comment, but my boss said/did something at our last holiday party that had me all kinds of flustered. She told a story about how one of our clients was super mean to our sales guy, and at one of their business dinners she started shoving all the plates of remaining food towards him saying stuff like "Here, big guy". Later in the night, I asked how her meal was, commenting that her entree was one I'd considered ordering. She still had half the plate left and said she was full if I wanted the rest. I declined, not wanting to take her leftovers - and then she shoved it towards me and said "Here, big guy!" π΅βπ«
Other than that, I haven't had many recent comments. I remember my grandma hugging me when I first started filling out, she pulled away while squeezing my shoulders and said "You're really packing it on, aren't you?" and it actually sounded kind of endearing??
And about a year or two ago, my aunt apparently pulled my husband aside and asked if I was okay with how much I was gaining. She'd seen how much my mom's abuse had affected me as a child and young adult and was worried I was down on myself. He said that when he reassured her that I was happy with my weight, she said "oh good" and seemed pleased. (This all happened at the Cheesecake Factory while I was up at the counter choosing my 4 to-go slices π)
Figured Iβd ask since itβs 4/20, do you smoke/do edibles?
I do edibles occasionally! I have a few favorite gummies I keep stocked for when the mood hits me. I used to partake much more often, but now it's kind of a once in a while treat when I have nothing planned but eating and laying around π
First day back at work and feeling anxious. Send some asks and keep me company? π₯Ί
