Why did Abel decide to build the fun fair? He doesn't seem like the type to enjoy seeing other people having fun. Was it simply because he saw a chance to make a lot of money, since the town didn't have one yet?
Man, I really have to finish that goddamned Mingus story when the mobile port's out because it genuinely seems to answer a lot of recent fan questions.
It may be difficult to imagine a younger, more fresh-faced Abel, but all of Mingus' goons have projects that were once intended to satisfy a particular neurosis of theirs. Ironically, each desire was Mingus could oddly understand and relate to on some level. Naturally, each dream wound up being something of a monkey paw wish, as they each got what they 'wanted' but completely lost what they were actually chasing.
For Abel, it's escapism. He wanted to create somewhere you could go to temporarily forget who you are. As you can tell, that didn't work out so well. Abel's domain is a constant reminder of the person he has to face in the mirror every morning.
