also angela calling up tim to find out how the proposal went since he'd texted her he was ready to do it, and she expected to know all the details. receiving no answer to calls or texts, worrying a little but figuring they were just 'celebrating'. then when morning rolls and there's still no answer, and she hears they didn't show up to work without notifying anyone, she panics.

Have you guys considered that he has been putting up with little jabs and "huckleberry" remarks for like a year now, not even just from Santos, but Robby as well. He's been bending over backwards for everyone all day, he's taken shit from everyone all day, he's consistently been there for everyone. He ordered a lyft for that lady without a second thought and it immediately came back to bite him. On top of it all he lost his fucking badge so he's just going through it lol.

And it's much harder to stand up to people when you care about them or there's more to lose. Robby is his mentor. Santos is his friend and roommate. She literally put a roof over his head.

we find out she did an out rotation to the VA during her R2 and that’s when she met Al-Hashimi. which is so interesting that she chose that hospital to rotate through. adds maybe some context for why Al-Hashimi may have suggested geriatrics and also may be where she really started to hone in her skills at the bedside.

the losses are really hitting her hard today. she is probably still fighting the panic attack and is constantly getting re-triggered. good on her for keeping firm boundaries to make sure she doesn’t endanger a patient but also provides continuity of care (ie Orlando)

speaking of Orlando’s case, you still see the care from Mohan as she tried to stop Noelle from blabbing on about how it’s a comfort for the financial side. this woman has found out her husband had another major medical event that will most likely leave his permanently disabled. his wife didn’t care about the money when he was in for DKA she certainly has bigger things to grapple with now.

Samira was also the one who realized what Orlando’s intentions were. that he likely tried to kill himself and helped guide the continuity of care for him knowing that possibility.

most interesting scene (for me) was learning from the other night shift resident that she is finding herself to be not competitive enough for the fellowships. she doesn’t have publications (thanks to the administration) but also NO ATTENDING stepped up and offered to help write a case report for either manovre she pulled during the MCI (pig tail or EZ-IO burr hole). Samira was the second person EVER to attempt that procedure in an active MCI (the biggest in Pittsburgh history) and not a single attending stepped up to find the money to publish the report?

and still, that resident was able to get other out rotations to help advance his skills for his patient care and earn him authorship on a publication. something that we haven’t seen or have been told that was an option for Samira other than the VA opportunity.

all these small bits show truly how isolated she is there. isolated in the friendships, lack of support for any aspect of her education and setting up her career. those failures were already set before the White House took that last chance at funding and a publication. Samira has shown (several times) in season 1 and some moments in season 2 how fantastic of an emergency medicine physician and teacher she can be. and she truly has been abandoned at that hospital and by the department.

So we all gonna pretend Santos’s wanting to publicly humiliate Langdon has anything to do with her wanting him to take accountability, she just wants to make him feel bad because of Garcia. Because wanting him to tell everyone that he stole drugs after EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS… you think they don’t? If they don’t I will be beyond shocking! I’ll be flabbergasted as you should be too. 

She said the only real reason Langdon would he arrested is if he had been stealing the drugs with intent to sell, and this convo with Santos really fucked me up. As if she didn’t also put patients at risk with her sky high ego, stone cold sober.

hi anon, thank you for sharing this! its so frustrating seeing so many people approach frank's story line in bad faith when this is a real thing that happens to many healthcare professionals! and recovery is very much possible. that is the story they are telling in the show and it really sucks how certain people are reacting to it (especially because patrick has spoken so openly about his own experience with addiction, when these 'viewers' of the show exhibit zero empathy for addicts) (and i say 'viewers' because these people watch the show while scrolling on their phones and get all their opinions from twitter 🙃 lol)

additionally, lived experience can be a huge asset in such a sensitive, hands-on job. with the vast range of patients and cases and lives that come through the ed, its important that they have a team of doctors and nurses who have the ability to connect to people and understand as many situations as possible. even in this episode, we see cassie discussing harm reduction, and she is a character in particular through who we see lived experience being exemplified when it comes to patient care and understanding. (lots of cases with other doctors too, but cassie is my standout) so coming back to the ed after rehab, and in active recovery can be a HUGE asset to the whole team, and to patients. i really hope he gets a storyline that exemplifies that at some point

as you said, santos has also put patients at risk with her actions, and so have a lot of the other doctors on the show! other doctors have fucked up patient care! other doctors have broken the law! but there is only one person that people want to be put in prison because they see him as 'evil' and undeserving of a second chance for reasons i think they need to unpack with a therapist

frank apologized to her for his behavior that day, and she didn’t accept it — which is well within her right to do! but then she doubles back and intentionally, cruelly, maliciously throws his recovery in his face like it’s some sort of gotcha. she acts as though she is owed a step by step rehashing of his recovery process. (she isn’t.)

she is so hung up on consequences — that’s what happens when you fuck up — but when has she ever genuinely received a consequence in canon? she was dismissive of her deaf patient multiple times, and when she offhandedly notes she almost called for an inappropriate scan just because of her impatience and frustration, she gets a simple glad you didn’t from al-hashimi. she threatens an alleged abuser by weaponizing her position of power as his physician, likely causing further harm to the victim she was supposedly trying to protect. she’s outright rude to her fellow practitioners, but they still joke and tease with her, they give her 5 hour energy drinks, they do special check-ins (thinking once again of “he’s OUR huckleberry”). did garcia call her out? yes, and then santos promptly argued with her for doing so “in front of langdon.”

I'd love to use this opportunity to direct this moment specifically to people that protected her with "every other doctor came up with nicknames for others. There's nothing mean about that." Suuuure, Jan.

She asked Santos a question and Santos didn't know the answer and she pretended to be sympathetic. "Tired? Feet hurt?" Santos laughed and nodded. "That patient DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT." I LOVE HER. I WANT TO PROPOSE MARRIAGE.
