Gig Review - Calling All Cars @ Good God Small Club, Sydney
Calling All Cars
10/10/13
Good God Small Club
So last night I went to my second gig over the course of the last two days, and even better this one was for free (just wanna give a little shout out/thank you to the guys in Calling All Cars for providing me with free tickets). The gig was as expected, super rad and fun, and the venue was a new experience for me as well - it was the first time I had ever been to a rock concert in a small club.
I got up to Sydney at around about 6:00pm and met up with my friend who would accompanying me to the show. We had dinner chilled out then made the 20 minute walk to the venue (this is not including getting lost for a few minutes at Darling Harbour).
We arrived at the club just as the first support act started (The Sinking Teeth) they were awesome and did their job by getting the crowd keen to see a rock show. There hard hitting rock caught my attention instantly and honestly I loved their set as well, would definitely go and see them again.
Once The Sinking Teeth wrapped up their set it was time for the second support act to grace the stage. Super Best Friends also put on an excellent show and the bassist tall lanky stature in the small club combined with his excellent witty remarks between songs made for a very enjoyable show to watch.
Before I move on I just wanted to say go and check out both of these bands as they are very good at what they do and their music is rad!
Once both support acts were finished their sets punters started to make their way to stand in front of the clubs tiny stage to get a good view for the coming show. Calling All Cars walked on at around about 10pm and from that point onwards the venue wouldn't stop moving. The guys loud rock sound combined with their insane onstage antics including climbing into the crowd and standing on drum risers (also skulling beers on stage) made for on of the most action packed performances I had ever experienced.
The guys played all the hits from their old albums as well as some new ones off of their upcoming third album, all of which were received with great enthusiasm by the crowd. At one stage during the show a tiny mosh pit formed (I say tiny because it consisted of literally three guys moshing) and my friend got hit in the face, her first injury at a rock show a very momentous moment in ones life.
All in all the gig, bands and venue all made for a very unique and on off experience for this avid music fan and I loved every second of the entire night.
