"We actually came up with the basic of this ending, the idea of Elizabeth sending Jack to his death to save Will, back when we were working on the first movie. The first time somebody talked about sequels, we said that would be a really good ending to go for."

"Will does the most heroic thing here, willing to get past everything and turn to her and offer her sympathy, help, an oil branch. Ultimately, her suffering is the priority, not his own feelings."
